Job Description

IT Field Technician (Traveling Technician)

Location: Greater Boston Area

Schedule: Monday-Friday Travel | Home on Weekends

Duration: 12-Month Contract-to-Hire

Important: Please Read Before Applying

This is a travel-focused Field Technician position where travel is the biggest component of the role. If you enjoy working independently, visiting different customer sites, solving technical problems in the field, and getting out from behind a desk, this is an excellent opportunity.

If you are looking for a traditional office-based IT job or do not enjoy traveling during the workweek, this position is likely not the right fit.

The company covers all business travel expenses.

That includes:

  • Hotels
  • Flights
  • Rental vehicles
  • Paid travel time
  • Mileage reimbursement where applicable
  • $65 daily meal stipend while traveling

Technicians typically travel Monday through Friday supporting customer locations throughout the region and are home most weekends.

A personal vehicle is required for this position.

Overview

Our client is a global leader in medical simulation technology, providing advanced patient simulators used by hospitals, universities, and healthcare training programs. These systems allow healthcare professionals to practice real-world patient care scenarios in controlled environments that improve training outcomes and patient safety.

They are seeking an IT Field Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of simulator systems throughout the Greater Boston market and surrounding areas.

Paid Training Program

The first 13 weeks of employment consist of a structured paid training program designed to prepare you for success in the field.

  • Starting pay is $25/hour during training
  • Monday-Friday travel is required during training
  • Home on weekends
  • All travel expenses are fully covered, including hotels, flights, rental vehicles, and approved business expenses
  • $65 daily meal stipend provided while traveling
  • Combination of classroom instruction and hands-on field shadowing with experienced technicians
  • No prior experience with medical simulation equipment is required

After successfully completing training, technicians transition into their assigned territory. While travel remains a major component of the role, most travel is within the Greater Boston market, with many customer locations north of Boston.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and configure patient simulator systems at hospitals, universities, and healthcare training facilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Configure and support systems within customer Windows and network environments
  • Diagnose and resolve Windows-based hardware and software problems
  • Provide end-user training and technical support at customer locations
  • Travel throughout the region supporting installations and service calls
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while representing the company in the field

Travel Expectations

  • Travel is the primary responsibility of this position
  • Monday-Friday travel is required and makes up a significant portion of the role
  • Home most weekends
  • A personal vehicle is required
  • Most customer sites are throughout the Greater Boston market, with many locations north of Boston
  • Travel may include driving and occasional flights depending on customer needs
  • All company-required travel expenses are fully covered, including hotels, flights, rental cars, mileage reimbursement, and approved travel-related expenses
  • $65 daily meal stipend provided while traveling
  • Paid travel time
  • Following the training period, most travel is regional throughout the Greater Boston area rather than extensive nationwide travel
  • This role is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys travel and prefers working in the field instead of sitting behind a desk every day

Must-Haves

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the workweek
  • Basic IT troubleshooting experience
  • Experience supporting Windows 10 environments
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DHCP, and IP addressing
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with customers on-site

Nice-to-Haves

  • CompTIA A+ or similar certification
  • Electronics troubleshooting or repair experience
  • Experience in field service, AV, telecom, low-voltage, biomedical equipment, or other hands-on technical environments
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

Additional Details

  • Systems operate on Windows 10 and integrate into customer networks
  • Mileage reimbursement beyond the first 30 miles traveled
  • Paid travel time included
  • Contract-to-hire opportunity with strong long-term growth potential
  • Open to candidates with varying levels of experience who demonstrate technical aptitude, professionalism, and a willingness to learn
