The IT Disaster Recovery Consultant is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s disaster recovery and resilience strategy across both on premises and Microsoft Azure environments. This role ensures business-critical systems, applications, and data hosted in Azure and hybrid platforms are recoverable within defined service levels (RTO/RPO).
The role partners closely with Infrastructure, Cloud Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Business Continuity teams to ensure end-to-end resilience and rapid recovery during disruptions.Key Responsibilities 1. Disaster Recovery Strategy & Governance
· Design and maintain enterprise-wide Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies covering Azure and hybrid workloads.
· Define and govern RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) for all critical systems.
· Perform and maintain Business Impact Analysis (BIA) aligned with cloud-based services.
· Establish standards and policies for cloud resilience and failover architectures.
2. Azure Disaster Recovery & Cloud Resilience
· Lead implementation and management of Azure DR services, including:
Azure Site Recovery (ASR) for VM replication and failover
Azure Backup for data protection
Geo-redundant storage (GRS) and availability zones
· Architect and manage multi-region failover strategies in Azure.
· Collaborate with Cloud Engineering teams to ensure resilience-by-design for Azure workloads.
· Optimize recovery designs for cost, performance, and scalability.
3. DR Infrastructure & Operations
· Oversee backup and recovery solutions across:
Cloud (Azure-native and third-party tools)
On-premises systems (hybrid scenarios)
· Ensure continuous readiness of DR environments, including:
Azure secondary regions
Failover resource groups and virtual networks
· Integrate DR planning into DevOps and cloud deployment pipelines.
4. Testing & Simulation
· Plan and execute cloud-based DR drills, including:
Azure failover testing using ASR
Application-level recovery validation
· Conduct tabletop and live failover simulations across regions.
· Analyze results, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement.
5. Incident Response & Recovery Execution
· Lead DR execution during major outages, including:
Azure region failures
Cyber incidents (e.g., ransomware)
· Coordinate with cloud, security, and infrastructure teams for rapid recovery.
· Provide timely updates to stakeholders and leadership during incidents.
· Validate post-recovery system integrity and business readiness.
6. Risk, Compliance & Security Alignment
· Ensure DR practices meet regulatory and industry standards:
ISO 22301 (BCM)
ISO 27001 / NIST frameworks
· Support audits and risk assessments related to cloud resilience.
· Aligning DR strategy with cybersecurity incident response plans.
7. Vendor & Stakeholder Management
· Manage Microsoft Azure and third-party DR solution providers.
· Ensure adherence to SLAs and recovery commitments.
· Collaborate with business units to align DR capabilities with operational needs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in IT or Computer Science or any other related course
3–5+ years focused on Disaster Recovery or IT Resilience
5–10+ years in IT Infrastructure, Cloud, or Operations
Hands-on experience managing Azure cloud environments and hybrid infrastructure
Microsoft Azure certifications (for cloud environment)
Knowledge of backup, recovery, replication, and failover technologies.
Experience with data center operations, cloud infrastructure, and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Azure).
Understanding of network resilience, cybersecurity, and incident response
Strong leadership in high-pressure incident scenarios
Excellent stakeholder communication (technical and executive level)
Strategic thinking with hands-on technical capability
Strong collaboration across cloud, security, and business teams
