The Digital Human Health Data & Analytics team plays a critical role in advancing data platform modernization, including migration from legacy systems and enabling self-service analytics capabilities across the organization

We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer who thrives in a fast-evolving environment and takes ownership of building reliable and scalable data solutions.

In this role, you will design, build, and operate data pipelines and curated datasets, working closely with business and technical teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready data products.

You will contribute directly to data platform modernization, including transitioning from legacy systems and improving data accessibility, performance, and governance.

Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, ownership, and a bias for action, along with the ability to deliver practical solutions that drive business value.

Primary Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this position includes but not limited to:

1. Data Engineering & Pipeline Development

  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and data APIs with hands-on coding and troubleshooting
  • Develop and optimize data workflows to improve reliability and processing speed
  • Ingest, cleanse, and transform data from multiple internal and external systems
  • Construct complex datasets directly to meet analytics and business requirements
  • Design and implement data models and curated datasets for reporting use cases
  • Develop scalable solutions using modern tools with active hands-on contribution

2. Data Marketplace Enablement

  • Onboard datasets by preparing metadata, documentation, and data validation
  • Build and maintain data catalog and taxonomy with direct updates and ownership
  • Enable self-service analytics by preparing ready-to-use, high-quality datasets

3. Collaboration with Stakeholders

  • Translate business needs into data solutions and implement them independently
  • Work closely with technical and business teams to deliver data products hands-on
  • Provide clear communication and practical guidance to improve user experience
  • Support CoE initiatives and actively apply best practices in daily delivery

4. Data Governance & Compliance

  • Validate and monitor data quality, consistency, and accuracy in pipelines
  • Implement access control, lineage, and governance rules within data flows
  • Ensure datasets comply with enterprise policies through active enforcement
  • Maintain audit-ready datasets with traceability embedded in implementations

5. Platform & Modernization Contribution

  • Execute migration tasks from legacy systems to modern data platforms
  • Replace legacy tools by rebuilding pipelines and datasets in new environments
  • Tune and optimize platform performance, scalability, and cost through hands-on work

Qualifications:

Required

  • 5 years+ in analytical functional roles within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical industries
  • 5 years+ of proven work experience as a data engineer or data architect
  • Strong hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL and Python
  • Ability to independently design, build, and troubleshoot data workflows
  • Experience implementing and operating data pipelines on cloud platforms
  • Solid understanding of data modeling and large-scale data processing
  • Practical experience implementing data quality checks in pipelines
  • Hands-on experience migrating or rebuilding pipelines to modern platforms
  • Ability to optimize performance, scalability, and cost through implementation
  • Experience preparing datasets for analytics and business consumption
  • Ability to translate business needs into implemented data solutions
  • Strong ownership mindset to execute tasks end-to-end hands-on
  • Hands-on experience managing metadata, data catalog, and documentation
  • Understanding of access control, data lineage, and governance basics
  • Experience delivering data products with cross-functional teams
  • Experience ensuring compliance with enterprise data policies
  • Ability to structure datasets for usability and self-service access

Preferred

  • Experience working with modern data stack tools (e.g., Databricks, Dataiku) and cloud computing technologies (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience supporting BI tools (Power BI, ThoughtSpot)
  • Experience implementing self-service analytics or data marketplace solutions
  • Experience building or supporting machine learning data pipelines
  • Experience working in global matrix environment/structure

Educational Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
