BXP Overview

BXP maintains a robust portfolio of business applications and systems supporting both its enterprise and building operations across the United States. This internship will expose the successful candidate to various data tools and reporting platforms, such as Power BI and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), that provide key information and actionable insights to the BXP business. This role interacts with other members of the Information Services (IS) team and with business partners based on the nature of their assigned project.

Primary Purpose of Position

The IT Data Services Intern will work with both the Application Data Services and Applications teams to build and enhance various reports and dashboards using data from BXP’s in-house and 3rd party SaaS applications. This will include opportunities to work with business partners through requirements gathering sessions and report validation exercises. This role may also assist with application development work, such as writing specifications or testing software.

Essential Functions

Reporting & Dashboards

  • Develop or enhance dashboards in Power BI and reports using SSRS and Crystal Reporting Services.
  • Identify internal and external data sources, build data pipelines, and query data using SQL.
  • Create technical specifications and data dictionaries (if appropriate) for reports and dashboards.
  • Implement and follow data security in line with BXP security standards.

Application Development & Support

  • Gather requirements from the business and write specifications for application development work. Work with software development contractor and business partners to test application changes.
  • Support the Applications Data Services and Applications Groups on numerous project initiatives at the company.
  • Support the Application Data Services team with database maintenance, patching, and performance as necessary.

Dedicated Project Work

  • Every Intern is assigned an impactful project(s).
  • Approximately 50%of time is associated with project work.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Currently performing coursework in Computer Sciences, Data Sciences, or a related field.
  • Possess a service orientation and attitude in working with others.
  • Be detail-oriented and methodical in solving problems and managing multiple projects.
  • Possess an aptitude toward learning technical concepts. Be results-oriented and a quick learner in supporting new products and technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases
  • Possess ability to write SQL statements

Knowledge of Power BI or other reporting tool setsKnowledge of API and Python frameworks to aggregate data from disparate sources

Internal Operations

  • Create and maintain documentation.
  • Conduct research on new technologies and products.

Physical Requirements

  • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed sitting such as operation of a computer.
  • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed standing such as operation of a fax and printer.
  • Involves movement between departments to facilitate work.
  • Involves lifting to install and/or relocate computers and monitors. Must be able to lift 30 lbs.

This position regularly interacts in both verbal and written form with employees.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Vice President, Application Development & Data Services who provides supervision and guidance, and coordinates, evaluates, and monitors work performance on a periodic basis.

Salary Range

$23.00- $26.00 per hour.  BXP offers a competitive total rewards package including base salary and annual discretionary bonus.  The range represents expected base salary; compensation will be determined based on role, skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors.  Our comprehensive benefits include medical coverage, a retirement savings plan, backup childcare, employee support programs, a generous commuter transit subsidy and more.
