Job Description

The ADA Forsyth Institute was founded in 1910 as the Forsyth Dental Infirmary for Children (later, the Forsyth Institute), to provide dental care to the disadvantaged children of Boston. While continuing to serve children in need, yet recognizing the ultimate goal is to prevent dental disease, the Institute in 1915 began to focus on scientific research and is today the world’s leader in oral health research. In October of 2023, the Institute joined with the American Dental Association to form the ADA Forsyth Institute, a 501(c)(3) entity dedicated to improving people’s oral and overall health and powering the profession of dentistry through cutting-edge basic research, creative translational science, innovative clinical technologies, and global public health outreach. Consistent with the Institute’s founding mission, the ADA ForsythKids mobile dental program continues to serve children in need.

The ADA Forsyth Institute (AFI) is seeking an experienced IT & Cloud Administrator to join our Information Technology team. This is a hands-on role responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and optimization of the Institute’s IT infrastructure and cloud environment.

The IT & Cloud Administrator will manage and support Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Intune, Windows endpoints and servers, networking, backups, cybersecurity tools, and related technology platforms to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient IT operations.

Working closely with internal teams, managed service providers (MSPs), and technology vendors, this position will troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, implement infrastructure improvements, support cloud and system migrations, maintain system availability, and help ensure effective cybersecurity practices.

The position will also play an important role in technology projects, system monitoring and documentation, asset management, disaster recovery and business continuity, and technology lifecycle management. This is a primarily onsite position based at the ADA Forsyth Institute in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and related cloud services.
  • Manage Windows endpoints, servers, applications, software deployments, patching, and device lifecycle management.
  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure, firewalls, wireless networks, VPNs, and internet connectivity, including FortiGate technologies.
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls, including multifactor authentication (Duo), endpoint protection, access controls, security monitoring, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions to protect critical organizational data and systems.
  • Support cloud and infrastructure migrations, system upgrades, implementations, and technology modernization initiatives.
  • Maintain user accounts, security groups, permissions, and role-based access controls in accordance with established security and access management practices.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance, security, and availability and coordinate corrective actions with internal staff, MSPs, vendors, and other technology partners.
  • Maintain accurate IT documentation, including asset inventories, system configurations, procedures, and knowledge base materials.
  • Assist with IT budgeting, vendor management, technology licensing, procurement, and technology planning.
  • Provide escalation-level technical support and troubleshoot complex hardware, software, network, security, cloud, and endpoint issues.
  • Support the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of IT standards, procedures, and security best practices.
  • Participate in business continuity, disaster recovery, cybersecurity incident response, and related planning and testing.
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions that improve security, reliability, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Support audiovisual, connectivity, and presentation technology and help maintain the reliability and availability of conference room and meeting-room systems.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external technology partners to ensure systems and services meet organizational, security, and operational requirements.
  • Due to the nature of IT operations, occasional work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to support special events, conferences, system implementations, upgrades, maintenance, emergency response, or other technology activities that cannot reasonably be completed during normal business hours.
  • Participate in technology projects and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience supporting and administering IT infrastructure, systems, and cloud technologies.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Intune, Windows, and Active Directory.
  • Experience with networking, firewalls, VPNs, virtualization, backup and recovery technologies, and disaster recovery.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including endpoint security, identity and access management, vulnerability management, and access controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across infrastructure, cloud, network, and endpoint environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with managed service providers, technology vendors, and third-party service providers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical users.
  • Microsoft certifications or other relevant IT certifications are preferred.
