Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Informatics Leadership

  • Serve as the primary liaison between clinical departments, IT, and executive leadership regarding clinical technology initiatives.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of workflows within Epic
  • Evaluate clinical workflows and recommend system enhancements to improve efficiency, safety, and documentation quality.
  • Partner with nursing, physicians, ancillary services, and operational leaders to ensure technology supports clinical practice.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including CMS, Joint Commission, and applicable state requirements.

Project Management

  • Lead and manage clinical technology and informatics projects from planning through implementation and post-go-live optimization.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations for informatics initiatives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including clinical leaders, IT analysts, vendors, and operational staff.
  • Track project milestones, risks, and deliverables and communicate progress to executive leadership.
  • Manage system upgrades, new module implementations, and workflow redesign projects within Epic
  • Facilitate change management strategies to ensure successful adoption of new technology and reporting tools.

System Optimization & Clinical Workflow Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve documentation efficiency, clinical decision support, and patient safety tools.
  • Monitor system usage and performance metrics to ensure effective utilization of the EHR.
  • Collaborate with quality and patient safety teams to integrate evidence-based practices into the EHR.
  • Lead initiatives to improve clinical documentation, order sets, and clinical decision support alerts.

Reporting, Analytics, and Dashboard Development

  • Lead the development, design, and maintenance of clinical and operational dashboards that support performance monitoring and decision-making.
  • Utilize reporting platforms and analytics tools associated with Epic, including tools such as Epic reporting modules, data warehouses, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Develop automated reports and dashboards for leadership that track key operational and clinical metrics.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, and quality leaders to define data requirements and performance indicators.
  • Translate clinical and operational needs into meaningful data visualization and reporting structures.
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and consistency of data used in reports and dashboards.
  • Support regulatory, quality, and accreditation reporting requirements through development of standardized reporting tools.
  • Assist in the development of executive-level dashboards used by leadership teams to monitor performance, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with analytics and IT teams to improve data extraction, reporting automation, and performance monitoring.

Training & Clinical Support

  • Oversee clinical informatics education and ongoing training programs for clinical staff.
  • Support onboarding and competency validation related to the electronic health record and reporting tools.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to super users and department champions.
  • Develop educational materials, workflow guides, and system best practices.

Data, Quality, and Performance Improvement

  • Partner with quality, analytics, and operational teams to ensure accurate data capture and reporting.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives by developing reports and dashboards that track key metrics such as quality outcomes, patient throughput, and documentation compliance.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting and performance improvement initiatives across the organization.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for clinical informatics analysts or specialists.
  • Promote collaboration between IT and clinical teams.
  • Support organizational strategic initiatives related to digital health, clinical technology, and data analytics.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and user engagement.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Informatics, Health Information Management, Data Analytics, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Data Analytics, or related field preferred.

Licensure / Certification

  • Current RN license preferred (if clinically focused).
  • Informatics certification preferred such as:
    • ANCC Informatics Nursing Certification (RN-BC)
    • Certified Professional in Healthcare Information & Management Systems (CPHIMS)

Experience

  • 5+ years of clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • 3+ years of experience with Epic or other enterprise EHR systems.
  • Experience developing or managing reporting dashboards and clinical data analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated experience managing clinical technology or informatics projects.
  • Experience working with business intelligence and reporting platforms (e.g., Epic reporting tools, SQL-based systems, or enterprise analytics dashboards).
