Job Description

The IT Business Applications Developer role is focused on fixing application and system problems or addressing an incident that is disrupting the application service that business users depend on. The Business Applications Developer will ensure excellent customer service by applying business and technical knowledge to triage, diagnose, troubleshoot, and escalate to resolve customer application issues. Business Applications Developers are responsible for providing Level 1 & 2 technical support for the organization's internal applications. This role is visible and requires strong partnerships with Business Analysts, project team members, and outside vendors. This position has no direct reports.

This position will focus mainly on supporting the application interfaces at Columbia Distributing.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring and responding to open tickets submitted through an incident management system
  • Troubleshoot and escalate alerts that cannot be resolved to the appropriate section
  • Progress issues and provide relevant information for troubleshooting or clarification
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to departmental initiatives
  • Handle late-night and weekend emergency support as required
  • Responsible for the set-up of interconnections to external interfaces, including Java, Python, Mail server, RDBMS, and web services as needed
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving application issues
  • Testing application software and coordinating the resolution of issues
  • Follow best practices for software development leveraging change control, code reviews, and DevOps processes

  • Technical owner of Java/SQL and Python/SQL interfaces

Key Competencies

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Basic understanding of ITIL compliant incident, problem and change service management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
  • Basic understanding of SQL database and Cloud-based architectures
  • Proficiency with DevOps and software coding programs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to work within a team, both as a leader and role player

This is a full-time position. Days/hours of work vary & may include weekends & nights as necessary.

Required Education and Experience

  • One (1)+ Year in SQL Development
  • One (1)+ Year in Java, Python or similar language development
  • Bachelor and/or Minimum three (3) years of experience

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Education/Training: College degree or equivalent experience
  • One (1)+ year of experience in SQL development preferred
  • One (1)+ year experience in business application development or software configuration role preferred
  • One (1)+ year experience in performing quality testing ensuring business requirements are met preferred

Compensation

  • Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and specific location.

Employees are also eligible for 80 hours of vacation every year and 7-8 days of paid holidays throughout the calendar year (depending on location).
