IT Business Analysts support a project by adding ‘depth,’ providing analysis and additional information to help initiatives by reducing uncertainty and increasing understanding. They act as a bridge between the functional requestor and the rest of the project team.

IT Business Analyst Senior is responsible for partnering with a project manager or business group to determine needs, and how to add value to ensure success. Potential deliverables may include the development of process flows, mapping documents, current/future state workflows, and problem statement/identification. Identifies problems and communicates progress effectively.

Essential Job Statements

  • Develop clear and concise project requirements using PMO methodology and templates and facilitate customer acceptance of the requirements deliverables.

  • Facilitate requirement-gathering sessions with business owners and subject matter experts (SME’s) to elicit requirements and understand problems.

  • Performs complex research and analysis to support project objectives and presenting findings.

  • Enhances OSE BA processes when applicable.

  • Facilitate process flow sessions with business and SME’s and develop current and future state workflows based on observation and interviews and provide gap analysis. Senior BA will typically work on more complex projects.

  • Facilitate customer acceptance of the work prepared by the IT BA.

  • Contribute to the development of test plans and develop test matrices to map the requirements to test scripts when applicable.

  • Share acquired knowledge of workflows during the testing process and support analysis of defects to determine impact on delivery of requirements to business when applicable.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department.

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or related field

Preferred Education:

Master’s degree in IT, Business, or related field

Licensing/ Certification - If registration, certification, or licensure is required, include the name of the accrediting or licensing body.

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience:

Minimum of five years Business Analyst experience.

Years and Type of Preferred Experience:

Minimum of three years overall experience in IT

two to five years' experience in healthcare.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Serves as an information resource for project experience, as well as IT BA systems and workflow knowledge for other analysts and project team members.

Responsible to orient and mentor new and junior team members to IT BA processes and standards and may provide input into performance evaluations.

Ability to validate documentation submitted by other IT Business Analysts or workgroups for appropriate focus, coverage, and gap analysis.

Creates job aids/training materials related to processes and tools.

Recognizes issues, problems, or opportunities and uses logic and sound judgment in determining appropriate course of action.

Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Visio, Project)
