The Prince George’s County Office of Information Technology is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an IT Associate Director, (Associate Director) grade G33 position, in the Enterprise Architecture Division

About the Position

This is senior-level managerial and technical work directing the County’s enterprise technology infrastructure and operations. The incumbent oversees network administration, cloud-based services, telecommunications, data center operations, server and storage environments, end-user support services, and related technology platforms and services.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that enterprise infrastructure is secure, reliable, scalable, resilient, and aligned with organizational priorities. Work includes developing infrastructure strategies, managing technology modernization initiatives, establishing technical standards, overseeing vendors and service providers, maintaining business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities, and ensuring the availability and performance of mission-critical technology services.

The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment and serves as a senior technical advisor to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), executive leadership, County agencies, and other stakeholders. Work is performed under the general direction of the CIO.

About the Agency

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for all of the agencies, departments, and branches of County government. The OIT Service Desk provides information technology support and maintenance services to Prince George’s County personnel. The Office of Information Technology is wholly dedicated to aligning technology efforts to support the strategic goals of the County. OIT will provide leadership, expertise, and resources in the ideation, development, and deployment of innovative technologies and streamlined processes to improve government efficiency, business interaction, and citizen access to government information and services.

Examples of duties

  • Directs enterprise infrastructure operations, including servers, storage, virtualization, backups, maintenance, monitoring, upgrades, and incident response, to ensure reliable and secure technology services across County environments.
  • Directs personnel, budgets, contracts, vendors, and operational resources to ensure accountability, effective service delivery, staff development, and continuous improvement across assigned teams.
  • Develops enterprise infrastructure strategies, budgets, roadmaps, security and resilience plans, and advises executive leadership on
    technology risks, investments, performance, and operational priorities.
  • Ensures infrastructure strategies and plans align with County priorities and approved technology standards.
  • Remediates security vulnerabilities and audit findings within established risk-based timeframes.
  • Directs cloud and data center operations, modernization, migrations, lifecycle planning, and infrastructure governance to ensure secure, reliable, and compliant enterprise technology services.
  • Directs telecommunications and unified communications services, including voice, mobile, conferencing, carrier, and connectivity systems, to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and resilient communications across County operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with the specifications for this position, including any work in OIT or for agencies or County Administration requiring OIT management involvement.
  • Stays abreast of technology innovations and best practices. Stays informed of applicable Federal, State, and County governing policies and statutes. Attends training and development activities to increase knowledge and competencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or field closely related to assignment/functional area.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in related functional area; with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered; however, there is no substitution for the required supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least seven years of progressively responsible experience managing enterprise technology infrastructure, including three years in senior management or leadership capacity.
  • Extensive experience overseeing large-scale network, server, storage, virtualization, backup, cloud, data center, telecommunications, and unified communications environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing enterprise infrastructure strategies, technology roadmaps, operating budgets, lifecycle replacement plans, and modernization initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success maintaining the availability, reliability, security, scalability, and resilience of mission-critical technology services.
  • Experience managing technical teams, including establishing performance expectations, evaluating performance, developing staff, and maintaining appropriate operational and on-call coverage.
  • Experience managing technology budgets, contracts, procurements, licenses, vendors, service providers, and service-level agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex technology risks and provide clear, strategic recommendations to executive leadership and
    non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience leading complex, enterprise-wide technology projects involving multiple agencies, vendors, systems, and competing operational priorities.
  • Experience supporting technology operations within a government, public-sector, or similarly complex and highly regulated organization.
