Job Description

This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

As a Senior Business Analyst you will fill the gap between the Software Asset Management (SAM) team and the technology delivery. You will act as the vital link between SAM functional teams and software engineering. You will translate complex software licensing frameworks, entitlement logic, compliance needs, and asset lifecycle workflows into robust technical specifications, data models, and actionable user stories.

In this role, you will lead end-to-end technical business analysis workstreams, evaluating SAM tool capabilities, analyzing platform options, and driving the implementation, configuration, and integration of SAM platforms. You will ensure the technology solutions and SAM tools built or deployed directly automate SAM processes, reduce compliance risk, and optimize software spend, while serving as a trusted advisor to both functional leads and engineering teams.

Job Responsibilities

  • Scope / Content Leadership: Independently manages end-to-end technical BA workstreams, translating SAM operational needs into structured engineering backlogs, functional specifications, and solution workflows without requiring guidance. Proactively shapes agile team processes and technical BA standards.

  • Accountability / Problem Solving: Leads technical root-cause analysis for SAM tooling and data pipelines. Evaluates gaps in discovery data, CMDB integrations, and license calculation logic, taking full accountability for delivering clear technical requirements and integration mappings that resolve business bottlenecks.

  • SAM Tool Analysis & Implementation: Conducts in-depth tool capability assessments, fit-gap analyses, and platform evaluations. Defines functional requirements, configuration logic, and integration specs to drive the successful implementation and enterprise rollout of SAM tools.

  • Stakeholder Management: Acts as the primary translator and liaison between functional SAM leads (business) and software engineers, data architects, and vendors (tech). Facilitates technical refinement sessions, resolves conflicting requirements between business desires and technical constraints, and aligns strategic priorities across both sides.

  • Impact / Strategy: Ensures implemented SAM tools and custom technical solutions deliver tangible business outcomes—such as automated license reconciliation, audit readiness, and software cost reduction. Translates long-term SAM functional roadmaps into scalable, phased technical implementation plans.

  • Complexity / Product Size: Operates across multi-product environments and complex technical ecosystems involving CMDBs, cloud management platforms, discovery tools, procurement engines, and enterprise SAM platforms. Navigates ambiguous requirements across intricate software licensing models (e.g., SaaS, core-based, concurrent user) and legacy tool migrations.

  • Business / Technical Ability: Demonstrates deep domain expertise in Software Asset Management concepts (ISO 19770, license entitlement modeling, cloud cost management) coupled with hands-on technical proficiency in SAM tool architectures, API integrations, data flow mapping, and query logic (SQL) to guide platform development and system integration.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business Administration

  • 5+ years of Business Analysis / Consultancy experience, with at least 3+ years in life sciences/pharma or the assigned business function being supported.

  • Demonstrated experience in translating requirements into strategic implementation plans that align with overall business objectives.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Business Analysis/Consultancy concepts and practices, with intermediate expertise in at least one BA capability.

  • Practical experience in IT/Software Asset Management, SAM lifecycle and licensing compliance

  • Strong proficiency in requirements elicitation and documentation, ensuring comprehensive requirements traceability and consistent change management.

  • Ability to independently apply tools, principles, concepts, and techniques related to requirements, data, usability, and process analysis.

Additional Qualifications

  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate workshops, resolve conflicts, and define stakeholder engagement strategies across functional areas.

  • Strong dedication to mentoring junior and intermediate BAs, helping them organize their activities.

  • Proactive mindset with a focus on initiating process improvements and contributing to organizational development, such as active involvement in the Community of Practice (CoP).
