We are seeking an experienced IT Technician II to support our Navy customer in the Norfolk, VA area. In this role, you will perform installations, lifecycle upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting of shipboard IT, communications, and network systems and equipment. You will provide infrastructure support by responding to and resolving service requests, maintaining system operations and cybersecurity compliance, and delivering training to shipboard personnel on the operation and maintenance of LAN and IT equipment as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform the installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and lifecycle replacement of shipboard IT, communications, and network systems and equipment in support of Navy operations.
  • Install, image, configure, patch, upgrade, monitor, and maintain Windows workstations, laptops, servers, peripherals, network devices, and communications equipment in accordance with approved technical and cybersecurity procedures.
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve Tier I/II hardware, software, operating system, network, communications, and infrastructure issues to maintain operational readiness and restore services.
  • Support the deployment, operation, sustainment, and modernization of Local Area Networks (LANs), virtualization platforms, Active Directory environments, communications systems, and other IT infrastructure supporting Navy mission requirements.
  • Execute Information Assurance (IA) and cybersecurity compliance activities, including patch management, vulnerability scanning, STIG implementation, SCAP assessments, ACAS/Nessus scanning, remediation efforts, and support for system accreditation requirements.
  • Install, test, certify, label, and maintain copper and fiber-optic cabling infrastructure and associated network connectivity components.
  • Coordinate with government personnel, shipboard crews, contractors, and technical support teams to maintain system operability, compliance, mission readiness, and the successful execution of maintenance and upgrade activities.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, system inventories, network diagrams, SOPs, status reports, and other customer-required documentation; document technical issues, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
  • Provide technical support and training to military personnel and end users on the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of installed IT and communications systems.
  • Travel as required to customer sites, naval installations, shipyards, and vessels in support of installation, maintenance, modernization, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors, team leads, or program management.

    Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Networking, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, military training, and relevant experience.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance required.
  • Must possess an IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, or equivalent) in accordance with DoD requirements and possess (or be able to obtain) required operating system or computing environment certifications supporting Navy systems.
  • Five (5) years of experience supporting IT systems, networks, communications equipment, or systems administration environments.
  • Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows operating systems, servers, hardware, software, and network-connected devices.
  • Strong working knowledge of networking technologies, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, network connectivity, and communications systems.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity and Information Assurance (IA) requirements, including vulnerability management, STIG compliance, SCAP assessments, system patching, and accreditation activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Active Directory, virtualization technologies (VMware or Hyper-V), and vulnerability assessment tools such as ACAS/Nessus.
  • Experience with Cat5/Cat6 and fiber-optic cabling; shipboard, Navy, or DoD experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, develop technical documentation, work independently with limited supervision, and collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and technical teams.
  • Ability to travel to government facilities, shipyards, and vessels as required to support mission requirements.
