The Alberta Human Rights Commission works with Albertans to promote awareness of, and appreciation for, human rights and diversity. Its overall goal is to develop inclusive communities in which all Albertans can participate in the social, economic, and cultural life of the province without discrimination.
The Alberta Human Rights Act established the Alberta Human Rights Commission to carry out functions under the Act. The Commission is an independent commission created by the Government of Alberta, which reports to the Minister of Justice. It has a two-fold mandate: to foster equality and to reduce discrimination. It fulfills this mandate through the resolution and settlement of human rights complaints, and through an administratively fair human rights tribunal process, including mediations and hearings.
Looking for an opportunity to make an impact behind the scenes? As the Issues Advisor to the Chief of the Commission and Tribunals, you'll help coordinate priorities, manage critical information, and support the leadership that advances the Alberta Human Rights Commission's mandate.
Reporting directly to the Chief of the Commission and Tribunals, you'll serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner, helping to manage information flow, priorities, and executive operations.
In this highly visible role, you'll work independently and exercise sound judgment while supporting executive leadership in navigating complex, sensitive, and high-profile matters.
You won't just respond to emerging priorities - you'll help anticipate them. By identifying risks, opportunities, and process improvements before they become issues, you'll play a key role in ensuring executive focus remains on the Commission's highest priorities.
You'll act as a central point of coordination between leadership, Commission staff, government partners, and external stakeholders, ensuring information, requests, and priorities are effectively triaged and managed. Your ability to anticipate needs, balance competing demands, and maintain strict confidentiality will be essential to supporting executive leadership and advancing the Commission's work.
Working in a fast-paced environment, you'll help maximize leadership capacity by managing critical workflows, coordinating responses to emerging issues, and supporting informed decision-making.
Your key responsibilities include
