Connectivity Engineer (ISP) – Hyperscale Data Center

Location: New Albany, OH

Schedule: 100% Onsite

Shift: Day shift and night shift spots available

Compensation: $60-$80/hour (Based on experience and qualifications)

Employment Type: Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Connectivity Engineer (ISP) to support the acceptance, readiness, commissioning, and operational turnover of fiber infrastructure within a hyperscale data center environment.

This role serves as the on-site technical authority for fiber validation, quality assurance, infrastructure readiness, and connectivity acceptance. The ideal candidate combines hands-on fiber expertise with strong troubleshooting skills, contractor management experience, and a proven ability to drive infrastructure from installation through production handoff.

Successful candidates will have experience supporting mission-critical environments and be comfortable reviewing fiber certification results, QA/QC inspections, readiness reviews, turnover activities, and commissioning support.

Key Responsibilities

Fiber Acceptance & Validation

  • Review and interpret OTDR traces, insertion loss results, and fiber certification reports.
  • Validate single-mode, multimode, MPO, and MTP fiber installations.
  • Review EXFO, Fluke, Viavi, and JDSU testing results.
  • Verify fiber infrastructure meets customer design standards and operational requirements.
  • Support troubleshooting of failed fiber paths, excessive loss events, polarity issues, and connectivity faults.
  • Validate splice records, test packages, port maps, and as-built documentation.

Readiness & Turnover

  • Participate in network readiness reviews and infrastructure acceptance activities.
  • Verify successful completion of punch-list items prior to turnover.
  • Support commissioning and operational handoff activities.
  • Communicate readiness risks, deficiencies, and schedule impacts to project stakeholders.
  • Ensure all testing, documentation, and acceptance requirements have been completed before production release.

QA/QC & Auditing

  • Perform physical audits of installed infrastructure.
  • Validate cable routing, pathway utilization, labeling, rack elevations, and workmanship standards.
  • Review installations against approved drawings, standards, and design packages.
  • Establish and validate First-of-Kind (FOK) benchmark installations.
  • Create, manage, and drive closure of deficiency logs and corrective action items.
  • Support site walks with contractors, vendors, and client representatives.

Connectivity Infrastructure

  • Validate ISP and OSP fiber infrastructure.
  • Review structured cabling installations in data halls, MMRs, MDFs, IDFs, and network rooms.
  • Support rack-and-stack validation activities.
  • Review fiber pathways, splice documentation, cable schedules, and labeling standards.
  • Troubleshoot Layer 1 connectivity issues in active production environments.

Contractor & Vendor Management

  • Review contractor test results and closeout packages.
  • Hold contractors accountable for quality and installation standards.
  • Escalate quality, schedule, safety, and readiness concerns when necessary.
  • Participate in quality reviews, corrective action plans, and recovery efforts.
  • Coordinate with field teams, vendors, and construction stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience supporting fiber infrastructure, structured cabling, or connectivity deployments.
  • Experience in hyperscale data centers, enterprise data centers, colocation facilities, or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of ISP and OSP fiber infrastructure.
  • Experience reviewing fiber certification testing and acceptance documentation.
  • Knowledge of OTDR testing, insertion loss testing, and fiber troubleshooting.
  • Experience performing QA/QC inspections and physical audits.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure turnovers and readiness activities.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, rack elevations, port maps, splice records, and as-built documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with contractors and stakeholders across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Meta, Microsoft, Google, AWS, Oracle, or other hyperscale environments.
  • Experience with Direct Line, E2 Optics, IES Communications, M.C. Dean, Black Box, CBRE, Mortenson, or similar organizations.
  • Fiber splicing experience.
  • Experience with MPO/MTP infrastructure.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Knowledge of commissioning processes and data center operational turnover.
  • Experience establishing and validating First-of-Kind (FOK) installations.

Desired Technical Experience

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
