Summary

The Information Systems Communications Analyst 2- CHYM is within the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department. The incumbent is responsible for the operational support of the “Choose How You Move” (CHYM) Transportation Network and other assigned network infrastructure as well as support applications serving Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County departments and agencies.

The position supports the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of network equipment, applications, and services. Responsibilities include identifying and assisting with the resolution of network-related issues, administering network support applications, troubleshooting services across Layers 1–3 of the OSI model, and working closely with CHYM Architects to ensure operational support remains aligned with planned technical designs. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate established knowledge and proficiency in network technologies while continuing to develop technical expertise within the Communications Technology functional area. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with both technical and non-technical customers, ITS teams, vendors, and other Metro departments.

The men and women in Metro’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department work 24-7 to ensure optimum communications both within Metro and between Metro and the general public. Multiple IT teams work to ensure information safety and efficient and effective business transactions.

ITS operates as a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year technology services organization. The employee must be available to perform duties as required, which may include work outside normal business hours, including nights, weekends, or holidays.

Examples of duties

• Supports network applications and equipment associated with the CHYM Transportation Network and the general Metro network environment to maintain reliable operation and performance.
• Performs administrative functions for network support applications, including DHCP and server-based network troubleshooting and monitoring tools.
• Troubleshoots network applications and services across Layers 1–3 of the OSI model.
• Performs moves, adds, changes, and deletes associated with network and telecommunications services.
• Gathers and analyzes information to identify problems, support incident resolution, and develop appropriate technical solutions.
• Coordinates with CHYM Architects, other ITS functional areas, customers, and vendors to support implementation and operational requirements.
• Prepares clear and concise technical documentation and communicates technical information appropriately to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Drives to various locations throughout Nashville and Davidson County to provide on-site network and telecommunications support.
• Performs both office and field work. Field activities may include walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting objects up to 35 pounds. Assistance is expected when lifting objects weighing more than 35 pounds.
• May be required to work outside normal business hours when necessary to support critical systems, network services, incidents, maintenance activities, or operational needs.

**Qualified candidates should demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in enterprise networking concepts and technologies, along with the ability to troubleshoot network applications and services across Layers 1–3 of the OSI model. Candidates should be able to gather and analyze technical information, identify and assist in resolving network-related issues, and engage appropriate technical resources when necessary.**

Three (3) years of experience in the design, installation and maintenance of communications systems and networks.

Supplemental information

• Experience supporting enterprise network environments, including VLANs, IP addressing and subnetting, DHCP, and Layer 1–3 troubleshooting
• Experience installing, configuring, supporting, or troubleshooting Cisco or comparable enterprise networking equipment using command-line interfaces and established implementation procedures
• Experience with network monitoring, diagnostic, and troubleshooting tools in an enterprise environment
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification or comparable networking certification is a plus
