Job Description

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a skilled Irrigation Technician to join their team! As the Irrigation Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of the City’s various irrigation systems, spray parks, drinking fountains, misters and other water feature systems, performing repair and replacement tasks such as overhauling and rebuilding spray heads and valves and directing and overseeing the work of seasonal staff.

If you have the following characteristics and qualifications, we want to hear from you!

  • Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent), preferably supplemented by technical training and courses related to the work, including irrigation systems and considerable related experience, or a combination of related training and experience as deemed suitable by the employer.

  • Valid BCWWA Cross Connection Control Tester certificate.

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of automatic irrigation and others water feature systems.

  • Sound knowledge of the hazards and of the safety precautions applicable to the work.

  • Ability to perform daily on-site work to excavate, install, repair and maintain underground irrigation systems, spray heads, drip irrigation, valves and other watering devices and systems.

  • Ability to read, interpret and/or maintain a variety of records, maps, and data related to the work.

  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions, including inclement weather, and to perform physical and manual labour.

  • Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in the work.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a wide variety of internal and external contacts, to establish and maintain effective liaison and working relationships and to employ contemporary service excellence principles.

  • You must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

  • The successful applicant will be required to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.


This assignment is anticipated to conclude in December 2026; however, the assignment may be adjusted for a variety of reasons, including operational requirements.
