Job Description

Under limited supervision, performs the operation; installation; maintenance; and repair of manual, semi-automatic, and automatic irrigation systems. Performs a sequence of operations on an assigned project within the limits of standard procedures, which have been set up for the work.

Compensation:

$21.73/hour (non-exempt).

This is a Union position with 1 opening.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to: Grounds Maintenance Manager and Lead Workers

Essential Duties

  1. Understand the complete operation of a central irrigation system.
  2. Check to make sure the irrigation system(s) operate and function properly per schedule, and maintain records.
  3. Install, maintain, and repair irrigation controllers, valves, QCV’s, sprinkler heads, air relief valves, and other system components.
  4. Program the central irrigation system on a timed irrigation schedule.
  5. Inspect, diagnose, and make repairs to irrigation system.
  6. Install and repair irrigation control wiring and hydraulic tubing.
  7. Perform supplemental or hand irrigation as required.
  8. May direct helpers and/or assigned employees.
  9. Level heads, valve boxes, QCV’s, drain boxes, etc. to grade.
  10. Report all problems to the Supervisor.
  11. Order and inventory parts and materials.
  12. Operate and maintain utility vehicles and powered equipment.
  13. Operate Backhoe and Trenchers as required.
  14. Comprehend irrigation blueprints.
  15. Design and modify irrigation systems.
  16. Understand the operations of pump stations and clay valves.
  17. Train and/or assist in training of employees.
  18. Perform work with due regard to safety of self and fellow employees, and with proper care and protection of Company property.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification/Requirements:

  • Must have extensive experience in irrigation installation and repair.
  • Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
  • Ability to create effective working relationships with employees.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.

Required Work Cards/Certifications:

  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision.
  • The employee is occasionally required to operate objects, tools, or controls.
