Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the ~140km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.

HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.

The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.


The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced IR Advisor to join the HumeLink West team.

Please note this role will be based on site requiring DIDO/FIFO or relocation where additional allowances will apply.

Key Accountabilities

Your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Implementing IR Strategies, policies and procedures
  • Identifying and advising project management and P&C Manager of industrial relations issues which may impact the project operations or commercial outcomes
  • Assist the business to represent UGL dealings with union officials on site and assess Right of Entry requests
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors on IR aspects
  • Support the business to manage disputes as required, ensuring that both the legal team and P&C team are working together to resolve disputes
  • Provide input and perspective on all key issues and disputes – document the disputes and escalate where appropriate
  • Compile IR analysis and statistical information for reporting
  • Work with frontline management in day-to-day communications and issue management to come to agreed productive outcomes.

About You

The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.

  • Highly developed interpersonal, relationship management and conflict resolution skills, supporting your ability to effectively liaise, consult and influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels internally and externally
  • Extensive experience in providing strategic and tactical advice on industrial instruments and employment regulations to reach solutions that are both compliant and commercially viable
  • Demonstrated success in managing Union relationships, disputes, and enterprise bargaining activities
  • Demonstrated experience with Right of Entry processes
  • Methodical and demonstrated ability to work independently, with discretion, to organise and prioritise demands, and handle complex tasks simultaneously, within a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to workplace change, learn quickly, and put new skills and knowledge to immediate use
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role, with comprehensive exposure to IR
  • Multi-site P&C experience in the industrial or resources sector is desirable
  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in HR/IR or related discipline
