Job Description

Under general supervision, plans, develops, coordinates, and directs engineering projects, including major construction and capital improvement projects. Supervises staff in a variety of engineering, technical and administrative functions in order to facilitate effective and efficient engineering related projects. Provides and recommends the acquisition of advance equipment, software programs, or specialized training. Appraises performance, disciplines employees, resolves complaints and problems. Confers with management, consulting firms, business associates, customers, regulating agencies, special interest groups, neighboring and city engineers and other community members. Participates in NERC audit process, and the preparation of quarterly and annual document certifications. Responsible for Transmission system planning and coordination of these efforts with power pools, and reliability coordinators. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited four year college or university in Electrical Engineering with power systems engineering or a related technical field and a minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Valid driver’s license and Professional Engineering license (PE) in the State of Missouri is required. Requires knowledge of Principles of advanced theories of power systems engineering, basic budgetary practices, and administrative principles. Requires effective written and oral communication skills, ability to deliver effective presentations and the ability to exercise authority over assigned work function. Must be able to logically solve problems and conduct research; summarizing a variety of informational and statistical data. Requires good organizational skills and ability to meet established deadlines and be familiar with current day project management and asset management tools. Must have knowledge of computation and analysis, including trigonometry, geometry, algebra, calculus and differential equations. Must have knowledge and skills related to system protection schemes and designs and be familiar with digital relay coordination and programming. Must be skilled in meeting deadlines, record management, and basic budgetary practices. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.

Physical Demands: While performing the essential functions of this job the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, talk, hear, stoop, bend over, crawl and lift objects up to 50 pounds in weight.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment with limited exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt, dust. Expect to access transmission and distribution right-of-way and all substation and power plant facilities.
