About the role

Sun Life’s Mobile Chapter is looking for an iOS Developer to join our dynamic and diverse team. Our mission is to create, develop and maintain first-class native mobile apps on iOS and Android for our clients, helping them achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.

We are a multi-site team (Montréal, Toronto, Waterloo, and Gurgaon in India) that values communication, collaboration, transparency, and integrity.

Job description

The iOS Developer will be joining one of our agile teams and has the following responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-quality, secure, and reliable features on iOS that provide seamless access to our financial services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Scrum Masters, Mobile Developers, Business System Analysts, UX architects, Testing Specialists) while acting as technical reference and coaching junior developers on iOS best practices.
  • Be involved in scrum ceremonies to plan, estimate, design, develop and test features for deployment into production.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards.
  • Write unit and integration tests to ensure high-quality and reliable code.
  • Identify and troubleshoot application issues and provide timely resolutions.
  • Work on projects involving 3rd party and offshore teams.
  • Participate in the discovery and evaluation of new technologies.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering or equivalent education/experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with native mobile development on iOS, including continuous integration and automation.
  • Strong experience working in an Agile environment, actively participating in scrum ceremonies.
  • Experience with at least one modern architecture pattern (MVVM, VIPER) with proven ability to implement it in production applications.
  • Proficiency in SwiftUI for developing modern iOS user interfaces.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools, such as continuous integration and deployment, version control, and automated testing.
  • Familiarity with Test Driven Development (TDD) or Behavior Driven Development (BDD), and ability to write comprehensive Unit and Integration tests using XCTest or Swift Testing framework, prioritizing fast and maintainable test suites.
  • Experience in creating and releasing complex iOS Applications to the App Store.
  • Capability of building, debugging, profiling and optimizing iOS Apps, including memory management.
  • Good understanding of mobile applications UX and iOS Human Interface guidelines.
  • Understanding of security principles and best practices in iOS development, including secure data storage, encryption, and authentication. Experience with security-related libraries and frameworks is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot/debug complex issues, assess alternatives, risks and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment (with technical and non-technical people).
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • English is a requirement for this role.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with modern asynchronous programming patterns including Combine framework, async/await, @Published properties, and state management.
  • Experience with RESTful web services, including understanding of HTTP protocol, consuming APIs from mobile applications, and working with JSON/XML data formats
  • Experience with UIKit and Storyboards for maintaining and enhancing legacy features.
  • Experience with RxSwift for reactive programming.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools: Jenkins, Splunk, Artifactory.
  • Java experience (Spring Boot development).
  • Experience with backend development.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI-powered development tools and agents to enhance productivity, code quality, and problem-solving through effective prompt engineering.
  • English is a requirement for this role and working knowledge of French.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
