Salary Range Starting At: $20.00-$24.00/ per hour

As the IOP Counselor you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the individual treatment plans for each client. For providing case management services as needed for the assigned clients. Responsible for maintaining a caseload and conducting individual, family and group counseling as noted in the treatment plan. Teaches educational classes as needed while ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:

  • Prepare the treatment plan in accordance with the Biopsychosocial assessment and ASAM criteria. Review goals every thirty days and on an ongoing basis and make changes as needed for the client
  • Documents all client contacts in the electronic medical records system, including progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries, monthly reports, and discharge plans
  • Presents the client’s case with the multi-disciplinary team and has the initial and updated treatment plans, and discharge summary signed by the supervisor. Participates in weekly staffing meetings to provide clinical input and observations as appropriate
  • Staff any changes in clients’ treatment goals and obtains signatures
  • Counsel individual clients in accordance with the goals developed on the treatment plan. (Individual counseling can be conducted by using cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoanalytic therapy, reality therapy, gestalt therapy and behavioral therapy.
  • Counsels’ families regarding addictions issues in accordance with the goals established in the treatment plan
  • Facilitates group counseling sessions and follows the assigned group format developed for each session
  • Prepare progress notes for each client and complete the group notes within 24 hours of the initial contact. All individual and family counseling progress notes are to be turned in at the end of the working day of the scheduled session
  • Prepares and teaches educational classes as assigned
  • Document on a group note about the clinical observations and behaviors of the client and provides the primary clinician with a copy of the group note
  • Facilitate client visitation per the Department of Child Services agreement
  • Completes an action sheet on level of care and assigned primary clinician
  • Completes monthly Peer Reviews as assigned by the Lead Counselor or designee
  • Attend staff meetings, departmental meetings, seminars/conferences, service training programs, and monthly in-service meetings as scheduled
  • Works assigned overtime hours as directed to ensure coverage of facility operations and approved by Supervisor or Director
  • Maintains client confidentiality of all client information according to Federal, State, and The Salvation Army standards, policies, and procedures
  • Conducts outside assessments for clients as assigned and Withdrawal Management within 48 hours of admission if applicable
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education Bachelor’s degree required in human services or other related field. Master’s degree in human services or other related field preferred

Background Checks Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years direct service in substance abuse field preferred

Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. ICAADA certified preferred or within 12 months of employment. Licensed Addiction Counselor certification preferred or within 12 months of hire. Maintain certification requirements as applicable.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish preferred
  • If in recovery, must demonstrate at least two years of sobriety with evidence of emotional and social stability.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements Include:

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking.
  • May require standing for extended

Travel: Position may be required to attend court hearings or external training opportunities. Transporting clients may also be required.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment, which may require some weekend and evening work.
