About the Role

This position supports the daily reconciliation, transaction oversight, and operational control activities for Security Benefit’s investment portfolios. The Investment Operations Analyst will perform cash and position reconciliations, monitor investment transactions throughout their lifecycle, and research and resolve exceptions to help maintain complete and accurate investment records. Working closely with outsourced service providers, custodians, external investment managers, internal stakeholders, and Investment Accounting, this role will coordinate issue resolution, support reporting and operational readiness activities, and identify opportunities to strengthen controls and improve processes.

The Investment Operations Analyst reports to the Asset Services Manager and is based in our home office in Topeka, Kansas or our Des Moines, Iowa office. SB associates work in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

  • Operate independently and within teams to improve, develop, and execute procedures for tracking all investments within the portfolio across stakeholders according to best practices and industry standards.
  • Perform daily cash, position, and transaction reconciliations across internal investment systems, Investment Accounting records, custodians, external investment managers, and outsourced service providers.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve reconciliation breaks, unmatched cash activity, position differences, and transaction discrepancies; maintain clear documentation of outstanding items and escalate aged, material, or time-sensitive exceptions when appropriate.
  • Work directly with outsourced service providers, custodians, trustees, agents, brokers, external investment managers, Investment Accounting, Treasury, and other internal stakeholders to resolve issues and support timely and accurate processing.
  • Review transaction, cash, position, pricing, and reference data across multiple systems to assess completeness, validity, accuracy, and reasonableness in accordance with established procedures and controls.
  • Monitor outsourced-provider deliverables and service levels, identify recurring issues or control gaps, and coordinate follow-up through resolution.
  • Assist with the preparation of periodic reports and other financial documents.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience required.
  • 0–5 years of experience in Asset Servicing, Loan Servicing, Investment Operations, or a Financial Services role or internship.
  • Ability to manage numerous requests and tasks on a daily basis and track and respond to requests in a timely manner, with high intellectual curiosity and a commitment to continuously expanding knowledge.
  • Entrepreneurial, resourceful self-starter who demonstrates high levels of integrity and accountability while being passionate about problem solving.
  • Teamwork orientation and highly collaborative, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external colleagues.
  • Ability to analyze financial documentation, develop procedures, and communicate detail in both verbal and written form.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional email correspondence.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of loans, bonds, equities, alternative investments, loan syndication, and securitizations including Direct Lending, Mezzanine, CLO, and Asset Backed financing.
  • Preferred: Experience with industry systems such as Pam for Investments, Clearwater, Everest, Charles River, DTCC Products, WSO, Clearpar, Markit, Factset, Bloomberg, or Aladdin.
