Job Description

A student job close to real decisions

We’re looking for a student assistant to work closely with Malthe, our CEO Sidekick, on investment, commercial and strategic projects across Copenhagen Merchants Group.

In practice, you’ll help turn opportunities, ideas and commercial discussions into clear analysis, Excel cases, decision material and follow-up that moves things forward.

The projects you support will often sit close to real assets and real markets — from agri-commodities and terminal operations to logistics, infrastructure and renewables, including BESS. Many of the cases are sizeable investments, often double-digit million levels and upwards, where assumptions, structure and follow-up actually matter.

This is not a classic student assistant role. You’ll work close to investments, terminal projects, commercial agreements, board material and people who make decisions for real. You’ll also help create structure when input is unfinished, complex or moving fast.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll support investment, commercial and strategic projects across CM Group – always close to real assets, real markets and sizeable investment cases.

Your work will include wearing different hats:

  • Investment analyst hat – reviewing investment opportunities and building Excel cases

  • Management consultant hat – preparing market, competitor, customer and volume analysis

  • Commercial development hat – supporting new commercial activities and projects across CM’s terminal portfolio

  • Legal-curious hat – reviewing NDAs, contracts, cooperation agreements and commission agreements

  • Boardroom hat – preparing board material, investment overviews and commercial summaries

  • Project manager hat – following up on actions, numbers, invoices and agreed commercial terms

  • Digital sidekick hat — using LLM tools intelligently to improve research, structure, drafting and productivity

In other words: you’ll help explore and shape where CM can develop next – from selected acquisitions and new commercial activities to the practical analysis, material and follow-up that turn good ideas into clear next steps and real progress.

Who you are

You’re probably studying a relevant master’s programme — or about to start one after finishing your bachelor’s degree.

You have strong analytical skills, solid Excel and PowerPoint capabilities, and good written communication. You enjoy working with numbers, agreements and commercial material — and most importantly, you are curious about how investments, customers, assets and business opportunities create value in practice.

We imagine you bring:

  • Full professional fluency in Danish and English, written and spoken

  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • A structured way of working and a good eye for detail

  • Confidence using LLM tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or similar

  • Motivation to work independently with sparring

  • Curiosity about investments, business development, infrastructure, commodities and commercial decision-making

Experience from case competitions, student consulting, investment clubs or similar is a plus — but not a requirement.

You do not need to know terminals, commodities or Copenhagen Merchants Group on day one. But you do need curiosity, judgement and the ability to turn unclear input into something useful.

You’ll thrive here if you like taking ownership, figuring things out and moving work forward without waiting for a perfect brief. We’ll give you sparring and direction — but not a step-by-step manual. That means you need the confidence to make a first call, ask good questions and put in the extra effort when the task deserves it.

What we offer

This is a student job with unusual exposure.

You’ll work close to ownership, investments, business development and commercial decision-making in a Danish, family-owned group with activities across commodities, shipping, terminals, logistics, infrastructure and renewables.

Our ambition is to keep developing CM — by growing what we already do well, exploring new opportunities and making selected investments where they make sense. You’ll get close to that work from day one.

You’ll get real responsibility, strong sparring, flexible working hours around exams and the chance to build skills that are useful far beyond a student job — hopefully in a future role with CM.

We’re based in Nordhavn. We’re pragmatic, informal and more interested in useful work than polished corporate nonsense.

We also have an octopus as our cultural ambassador: T.W. Heart You don’t need to fully understand that on day one. Most of us didn’t either.

Practical details

Location: Pakhus 48, Nordhavn, Copenhagen
Working hours: 15–20+ hours per week, depending on availability
Flexibility: We fully respect exams and study periods
Start: As soon as possible / by agreement

Interested?

Upload your CV and a short video introduction - max. 1 minute.

Tell us briefly why this role makes sense for you, and why you think you could be useful close to investments, commercial projects and unfinished thoughts.

Copenhagen Merchants

About Copenhagen Merchants

Copenhagen Merchants has been a commodity broker for more than four decades. The company primarily focuses on the international brokering of grain from the Baltic and the Black Sea region, while products such as rapeseed and feedstuffs are handled by Baltic Grain & Feed. Further, CM acts as one of the biggest international biomass traders of wood pellets and other biomass products, which is handled by CM Biomass Partners.

We seek to provide our customers with turnkey solutions; i.e. solutions which minimize both the seller's and the buyer's risk. This means that in addition to operating as brokers in the free market, we provide assistance with tenders, intervention, inland and railway logistics, chartering and superintendence.

Copenhagen Merchants is staffed by professionals with a broad range of competencies and experience. Our skilled employees have worked together for many years and have therefore built up extensive personal networks of international consumers, flour mills, maltsters, crushers and power plants as well as local and global trading companies.
