Summary

The investigation of consumer complaints reported directly to the Monmouth County Division of Consumer Affairs either online, through mail, or walk-ins to the office. Investigate consumer complaints reported to the State of New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and forwarded to Monmouth County for investigation. Conduct office and field investigations of complaints using all available investigative tools and techniques. Keep informed regarding current consumer related issues and educate the public on current trends, scams, and consumer related topics.

Examples of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Contact consumers to obtain facts and request available documentation.
• Contact merchants, manufacturers, contractors and others to obtain factual or comparative data relative to a complaint.
• Contact third party witnesses to add clarification to a complaint.
• Document the facts obtained in the case folder and computer.
• Conduct onsite inspections of businesses to verify they are complying with the regulations and statutes in the Consumer Fraud Act and Administrative Code.
• Conduct formal conferences with merchants, contractors and business owners.
• Confer with law enforcement when appropriate.
• Maintain essential records, files, and case folders.

Requirements

• Four (4) years of professional experience relevant to the position OR possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid New Jersey Driver’s License in good standing
• Basic computer knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

• Investigative experience
• Read, write & speak Spanish
