Summary

The Dougherty County District Attorney’s Office is hiring for an Investigator. The purpose of this position is to investigation of criminal offenses in Dougherty County. Responsibilities may vary dependent upon assigned department. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Examples of duties

  • Investigates all criminal cases; reviews incident reports; interviews witnesses, defendants, victims; locates witnesses; locates and collects evidence; performs chemical and microscopic tests on evidence. • Compiles narratives of witness and defendant statements based upon incident reports and interviews conducted; photographs crime scenes when requested. • Performs additional investigations on majority of cases received; prepares, executes arrest and search warrants. • Travels to correctional facilities and interviews inmates. • Assembles all evidence to be used at trial and verify each item of evidence has been marked correctly and entered into record. • May file condemnation proceedings of all monetary or material evidence on all seizures or contraband. • May administer the GCIC terminal operator/practitioners’ training program within the agency; complete and maintain records; and serve as the point of contact for validation and all other GCIC/NCIC network related matters. • Serves all legal documents on attorneys, witnesses, defendants; coordinates conferences with assistant district attorneys, attorneys, victims and witnesses; coordinates with all law enforcement agencies for scheduled conferences. • Prepares assigned Federal cases to be prosecuted by Federal Court. • conducts internal investigations pertaining to alleged criminal offense, policy violations, or corruption; investigates white collar crimes at request of County, City and State officials. • May serve as an investigator for Terminal Agency Coordinators (TAC). • Conducts and completes investigations on all extradition cases; files all extradition proceedings with State’s Governor’s office. • Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice or related major. • Four (4) years of law enforcement experience with preferred knowledge in accounting, record keeping, or personnel issues or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. • None Special Certifications And Licenses: • Must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Certification. • May require additional certifications based upon assigned department. • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
