Summary

Kent County Office of the Public Defender provides holistic defense services to indigent defendants in Kent County. At this time, we are seeking to hire an Investigator. Work is performed under general supervision in this team-oriented office.

In this professional role, responsibilities include:

  • Locating and interviewing witnesses.
  • Visiting incident scenes.
  • Finding or validating evidence.
  • Serving subpoenas.
  • Appearing as a witness and testifies at trials if needed.
  • Many other duties as required.

Investigators at the Office are integral parts of the defense team who demonstrate a commitment to serving marginalized persons and communities.

Qualifications

-Associates degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, legal studies, or other relevant field.

-One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in criminal justice investigations; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

-Valid Michigan driver’s license and have access to transportation for the performance of job duties.

-Demonstrated commitment to criminal justice, indigent defense, racial equity, and social justice issues.

-Fluency in one or more languages used by various communities in addition to English is preferred.
