The Fall 2026 Investigator Internship Program begins on September 14, 2026 and runs untilDecember 3, 2026The internship is an unpaid, part-time, in-person, intensive, and hands-on program. No remote or weekend investigative positions are available
Interns carry their own caseloads and partner up with other interns for field investigations throughout New York CityThe internship begins with mandatory training in Criminal Defenses, Interviewing Techniques, Constitutional Law, Ethics for Investigations, Memorializing Interviews, Social Media Research, Discovery Reform, Investigative Techniques, and more. These positions require considerable initiative, resourcefulness, creativity, drive, and a strong commitment to criminal defense work
We have internship spots available in the following trial offices:The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

The Legal Aid Society is the nation's oldest and largest provider of legal services to the indigent. Founded in 1876, the Society provides a full range of civil legal services as well as criminal defense work, and juvenile rights representation in Family Court. Our core service is to provide free legal assistance to New Yorkers who live at or below the poverty level and cannot afford to hire a lawyer when confronted with a legal problem.
