Job Description

Garrett Motion Electrification Center of Excellence is looking for a talented Inverter Lead Engineer to lead the development and industrialization of new inverters and electric products.

Garrett Motion Electrification Center of Excellence is charged with creating complex electric solutions to meet increasingly stringent automotive regulations while still satisfying customer demands for performance and drivability. We are building a world class group that designs, develops and launches state of the art electrical-electronic modules coupled to our market leading technologies in turbocharger, fuel cell compressors, HVAC compressors as well as other innovative products. These products will span vehicles from passenger cars to heavy duty commercial vehicles, from automotive to industrial applications, and include conventional and hybrid powertrains as well as fully electric vehicles. By leveraging our aerospace and motorsports experience and heritage with high-power / high-speed electric motor technology, we lead the world in automotive boosting electrification and broaden the product range into new applications. Garrett Motion has launched the first automotive production high speed electric compressor that not only includes one of the most power dense motors, it is also the first automotive use of air bearings. To continue this momentum, we are growing our agile team of global experts to lead new technology development.

The Inverter Lead Engineer coordinates and contributes to development of cutting-edge, high-voltage inverters. This position serves as a key technical interface between our ECOE Lead engineer, development and validation teams, internal stakeholders and external partners. You will own technical leadership, co-ordination, risk assessment and electrical hardware development; including power electronics, controls, and software. Then, working with the ECOE Lead engineer, conceive innovative solutions to meet requirements from concept up to mass production.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze and clarify stakeholder requirements with internal and cross functional teams
  • Lead customer communication with thorough understanding of product design to evaluate and specify capabilities & performance expectation – Customer first point of contact for electrification side.
  • Technology ownership, including HW configuration and change management.
  • Early power electronics concept evaluations, development, verification and validation.
  • E-Module ownership of ,e.g., HW configuration and change management, meeting all e-module functional requirements (Performance, Reliability, Quality, Costs & Timing) - Design, Simulation, Testing, Validation (DVP&R), Release
  • Be key technical interface with suppliers & cross functional teams to ensure alignment of development activities, design for manufacture, and to achieve program milestones. Cascade actions to individual owners.
  • Failure analysis with clear problem synthesis and robust solution proposals.
  • Project development and scheduling responsibility for technical deliverables meeting specifications & timing, together with the ECOE Lead Engineer.
  • Enable cost target realization, develop should cost with sourcing team, and support project budgeting.
  • Intelligent risk assessment and mitigation
  • Learn and develop Garrett Motion engineering processes, whilst promoting and implementing current technology standards.
  • Contribute to a team work focused approach and enable to realize the best solution.
  • Support internal and customer test and validation

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s in electrical engineering or related degree
  • 5 or more years working experience in electrical/electronic product development including series production
  • Good understanding of automotive system requirements for electric products, V-cycle development process for hardware and software, ASPICE, functional safety

Additional Qualifications Preferred:

  • Working experience in automotive electrical/electronic product development

  • Proven experience in leading an engineering team directly or matrix

  • Technical domain expertise (M.Sc., PhD or work experience) in electric machines/power electronics/controls

  • Design for Six Sigma green belt or above
