This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate inventory levels, supporting supply chain operations, and ensuring hospital departments have the supplies they need to provide quality patient care.

Summary
The Inventory Management Specialist tracks inventory levels and monitors stock changes across departments. This role oversees inventory control processes, manages deliveries, monitors expiration dates and recalls, and maintains accurate inventory records. Through digital tracking and manual counts, the Inventory Management Specialist identifies discrepancies and provides reports and analysis to the Director of Materials Management.
Essential Functions
Inventory Control
- Track and document inventory changes across departments
- Maintain accurate inventory records using digital systems and manual counts
- Conduct monthly cycle counts, spot checks, and partial physical inventory audits
- Perform weekly expiration date checks in the warehouse and other departments
- Maintain par levels in supply rooms and adjust inventory as needed
Reporting and Analysis
- Identify discrepancies between physical counts and inventory reports
- Provide inventory control reports to the Director of Materials Management
- Analyze supply chain data to identify and resolve inventory issues
- Identify obsolete inventory and coordinate transfer or disposal before expiration
Operations and Collaboration
- Update databases with incoming and outgoing inventory
- Inspect and document inventory recalls
- Assist with and train staff on physical inventory procedures
- Collaborate with departments including accounts payable, finance, and external vendors
- Support updates and improvements to inventory software and related technologies
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
- Proficient with computers and spreadsheet software
Education and Experience
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of inventory management experience
- Experience with inventory management software
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer
- Periods of standing and walking in warehouse or supply areas
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to reach items stored at varying heights in supply rooms and storage areas
Travel
Occasional travel to clinics affiliated with Boone Memorial Hospital may be required.
