The Inventory Control Specialist 1 is responsible for managing key processes and activities associated with Crane’s rental fleet machine and attachment inventory. This role ensures cranes and attachments are accurately tracked, inspected, and returned to a “ready line” status efficiently and safely. The position coordinates inbound/outbound inspections, fleet status communication, damage documentation and repair follow-up, periodic audits, and supports rental invoicing readiness by maintaining accurate fleet information. The role requires regular travel within the territory and the ability to safely access and audit heavy equipment in yard and field environments.

Essential Functions

  • Models, promotes, and reinforces the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Maintains and communicates rental fleet and attachment status using boards, charts, spreadsheets, and presentations (e.g., Monday board, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Manages outbound inspections and documentation when cranes/attachments deploy to customer sites; confirms configuration, attachments, and readiness.
  • Manages inbound inspections when units return from rent; documents condition, verifies attachments, and initiates next-step actions to restore readiness.
  • Documents and communicates damages and repair needs to customers and internal partners; coordinates with Service to ensure repairs are completed and invoiced accurately.
  • Tracks preventive maintenance (PM) services due while equipment is on rent; communicates requirements to Service and customers and supports scheduling completion.
  • Conducts periodic inspections for long-term rentals and supports compliance with annual inspection requirements.
  • Works alongside personnel involved in rental invoicing by ensuring inspection documentation, damage detail, and configuration information are timely and accurate.
  • Partners with Product Support and Service teams when equipment requires repair to improve turnaround time and fleet utilization.
  • Performs monthly yard audits and physical inventory verification of cranes and attachments; reconciles variances and supports inventory integrity.
  • Maintains key fleet essentials (e.g., hours, location, readiness status, service needs) and organizes service history so it can be communicated to internal stakeholders and prospective buyers.
  • Assists transportation coordination by providing crane/attachment expertise and developing load plans as needed to support safe, compliant moves.
  • Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and to learn crane operations for the various models represented.
  • Working knowledge (or the ability to learn) of crane components, inspections, preventive maintenance requirements, and damage documentation practices.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for internal coordination and customer-facing updates; ability to present to small groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and scheduling/tracking tools; adaptability to learn and use ERP and inventory systems.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to travel within the territory and work independently while coordinating across departments.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED required; additional specialized/technical training or some college preferred.
  • Typically 2–5 years of related experience in equipment rental/fleet coordination, yard operations, inspections, logistics, service coordination, or inventory processes (or equivalent combination of education and experience) is preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Travel:

  • Up to 60% travel may be required within the territory (often 2–3 days per week depending on residence); occasional overnight travel may be necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely climb on/off cranes and access equipment at varying heights; ability to safely work in equipment yards and at customer sites.
  • Ability to perform physical audits of cranes/attachments, including walking yards, climbing, bending, and working outdoors in varying conditions.
  • At times required to move or lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • This position involves a combination of desk work and frequent movement in yards/field environments.

Work Environment:

  • Combination of office work and frequent yard/field presence; exposure to weather extremes when working outside (inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity).
  • Frequently works at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • May perform work in cramped spaces, awkward positions, and/or around hazardous equipment or high places.
