Job Description

General Purpose

Manage an inventory control team and oversee the daily inventory activities in a plant, warehouse, distribution center, store, or other area. Ensure the quality of products and quantities meet the business demands. Collaborate with other departments and work with vendors on inventory performance and issues. Ensure inventory records are accurate and maintained according to the company’s policies and procedures. Serve as the liaison between various levels of the organization, vendors, and the customer.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operational activities of supervisors and inventory control team to ensure orders are received timely and supplies meet the business demands
  • Manage assigned employees, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and performance management. Understand and effectively apply work rules, union contract provisions (if applicable), and employment policies. Administer discipline consistently and fairly. Work with Human Resources and plant management to resolve employee related issues
  • Develop, maintain, and manage inventory programs and other record keeping methods to ensure accurate information is readily available and current
  • Work with vendors and departments to ensure the optimal inventory levels, accuracy, and quality meet customer demand and avoid overstocking or stockouts
  • Manage activities related to strategic inventory control, warehousing, and receiving
  • Communicate and ensure all regulations and company policies are understood and followed by supervisors and inventory teams; advise them of correct interpretation when necessary
  • Manage the department’s process for inventory control levels to safeguard operational and financial goals
  • Communicate with other departments, such as purchasing, production, sales, operations planning, and logistics, to ensure inventory availability and alignment to meet customer needs
  • Report KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) as identified by the organization

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in business, logistics, supply chain, or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • 5 to 8 years of inventory control, warehouse, or related experience coupled with demonstrated leadership attributes, team leadership, or supervisory experience; 1+ year of manager experience preferred
  • Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of inventory management best practices and principles
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of inventory control planning and production methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of company computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to lead, motivate, and influence teams to achieve objectives
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to work collaboratively and elicit cooperation from variety of sources, including management, production planning, quality teams, logistics, procurement, etc.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines for multiple assignments or projects
  • Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills)
  • Able to communicate with various levels of personnel to ensure customers’ needs and requirements are met
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
