The Invasive Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology Technologist performs interventional radiology examinations and invasive cardiac procedures on patients based on department procedures and under the direction of appropriate supervisor.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates technological proficiency in assisting with all procedures performed with respective physicians in interventional radiology and/or cardiac catheterization lab

  • Directly assists interventional radiologist and/or Cardiologist in the performance of various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

  • Communicates clinical observations during procedures to performing Physician

  • Remains current in practice and utilizes expertise in the technological aspects of interventional radiology and/or invasive cardiology

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of all equipment and supplies utilized in interventional services and demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot equipment and issues effectively

  • Accountable for accurate procedural documentation in Epic

  • Demonstrates the action of understanding specific medications utilized in Cardiac catheterization procedures and comprehends indications for usage

  • Monitors hemodynamic status of patients and responds appropriately to fluctuation of parameters

  • Demonstrates proficiency in maintaining hemostasis of access sites

  • Accountable for quality of digital images sent to PACS. Verify correct patient is selected from worklist, ensures accuracy of Medical Record information prior to being sent to PACS

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transports patients weighing up to 500 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

Registered Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist or Registered Radiology Technologist (current NJ license if working in NJ) or trained Cardiovascular Technician.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 1-year staff technologist. At least 1-year experience in interventional radiology and/or cardiac catheterization lab, preferred. If Radiology Technologist: required to successfully complete advanced invasive radiology registry within 1 year of eligibility. Obtain BLS and ACLS by completion of orientation History of computer usage experience required.
