Do you enjoy helping people, staying organized, and keeping things moving in a fast-paced environment? We’re looking for an Interviewing Clerk who can provide excellent customer service, collect accurate information, and support the public assistance application process with professionalism and care.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll serve as a key point of contact for customers and help ensure applications are processed efficiently and accurately. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing and screening applicants for public assistance programs to gather required information.
  • Front desk support, providing direct customer service and guiding individuals based on their needs.
  • Reviewing and recording applicant/client information to support eligibility determinations (initial and ongoing).
  • Referring eligible applicants to appropriate public assistance and support programs.
  • Assisting with intake and routine forms, ensuring documents are completed correctly and on time.
  • Scheduling appointments and following established procedures.
  • Preparing reports (regular and special) as needed.
  • Performing general clerical duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and two (2) years of clerical or public-contact experience.
  • College education from an accredited institution or vocational/technical training may substitute for experience at the following rates:
    • 30 hours per semester, or 45 hours per quarter, or 710 classroom hours = one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working for the Access Program (preferred).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge of policies, procedures, laws, and programs related to the agency’s services.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to obtain and verify information professionally.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret written, numerical, and verbal data from multiple sources.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to enter data accurately into computerized systems.
  • Comfort navigating multiple computer screens and completing/reviewing basic documents and forms.
  • Basic arithmetic and strong documentation skills (clear, concise, accurate records).
  • Excellent customer service—able to interact with the public in a tactful, courteous, and effective manner.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including exceptional typing skills.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and plan/organize work to meet timeliness requirements.
  • Ability to review for accuracy/completeness and maintain an organized filing system.
