Shift:

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides assessment, management and outcome evaluation for patients in inpatient and outpatient settings. The APRN serves as a resource to educate patients, families, professional nurses, and staff; functions as a liaison between patient, family and UofL Physicians staff; and participates in clinical research. The APRN should demonstrate an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

UofL Physicians is seeking an Interventional Radiology APRN to join its radiology division. The APRN facilitates the delivery of quality, evidence-based patient care while promoting efficiency and effective patient outcomes within the Interventional Radiology suite and will demonstrate expert clinical decision-making in cardiopulmonary health care issues and diagnoses.

The APRN functions in collaboration with the radiology physician group in the care of adult patients with critical illness. The ideal candidate will perform physical exams, collect and document data, organize diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consults, prescribe appropriate interventions and medications, and provide direct patient care services in the radiology setting.

Specific responsibilities include:

Provide direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multiple medical problems or disease in collaboration with the radiology physician team.

Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Document pertinent normal and abnormal findings and narrative summaries within the medical record.

Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Explain the necessity, risks, and benefits of anticipated procedures to patients, family, and other staff.

Organize, perform, and document approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon the patient’s clinical status.

Formulate and initiate a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the radiology physician team.

Utilize prescriptive privileges within the confines of Kentucky state law.

Assess patients for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patients.

Provide patient-family centered care by communicating effectively with patients and family members.

Utilize current research and evidence-based practice decision-making in all clinical practice. Incorporate clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care.

Support clinical research as conducted by the radiology physician team.

Serve as a clinical leader and expert to nursing staff and members of the multidisciplinary team

Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in hospital-led Nurse Practitioner initiatives, participation in professional organizations, and continuing education.

Demonstrates expert ability in clinical decision-making related to cardio-pulmonary health care issues.

Ensures patient eligibility for Low Dose Lung CT Lung Cancer Screening and shared decision making is present and documented.

Ensure patient information is entered in the LDCT Registry promptly.

Provides results and consultation to LDCT patients, as well as provides other necessary results.

Ensure follow-up scans are scheduled and adhered to.

Provides education on LDCT for clinicians to promote testing appropriately.

Collaboratively work with service chiefs, physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary departments to achieve hospital-defined goals.

Performs all other activities by proactively identifying problems and solutions for the welfare of the patients, community, and hospital.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description:

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Must hold valid Advanced Practice Nursing Licensure in the state of Kentucky.
  • ACNP preferred, not required
  • Minimum of three years of relevant advanced practice nursing experience. Academic medical center and ICU experience strongly preferred..
