Job Description

The Interoperability Project Manager is a key role responsible for ensuring successful EMR integrations with provider practices, including data exchange services (e.g. HL7/FHIR, Proprietary EMR APIs, CCDAs) and user-facing applications embedded within the EMR workflow. This role focuses on turning technical EMR integration requirements into smooth, well-coordinated implementations that enable providers to efficiently and confidently adopt our data integration and interoperability products.

This role works closely with Client Success, Clinical Operations, Product, Engineering, and third-party EMR partners to plan and deliver implementations on time with high quality outcomes. This role combines project management, provider-facing communication, and tech savvy coordination, ownership, and bias for action to achieve project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead customer EMR integration implementations from planning through go-live and beyond, including SMART-on-FHIR applications, data integration services (HL7/FHIR, proprietary APIs), CCDA based data retrieval, and other EMR interoperability technologies
  • Serve as primary point of contact and accountability for provider EMR integration success
  • Partner with Customer Success team during pre-implementation scoping, planning, and readiness assessments (e.g. security questionnaires, IT resource allocation, governance)
  • Partner with Clinical Operations and Customer Success teams to align technical EMR integration implementation with other provider onboarding tasks
  • Coordinate client teams and third-party partners (e.g., Epic, athena, Redox)
  • Engage in cross-team collaboration, investigation, and issue resolution
  • Manage project timelines, milestones, and delivery commitments
  • Execute implementation and support tasks such as test data setup, system configuration, product demonstrations and education, issue investigation, and active problem solving
  • Facilitate comprehensive testing in coordination with the full implementation team, including functional feature tests, comprehensive UAT, and production migration validation
  • Troubleshoot issues and identify solutions, in collaboration with team colleagues
  • Partner with Support Engineers on technical execution and support needs, including monitoring integration health and reporting applicable metrics
  • Utilize standardized processes, templates, and self-service tools to scale efficiently
  • Identify and escalate risks, blockers, and dependencies
  • Accountable for communicating reliable and accurate project updates and related statuses to all project stakeholders and internal leadership

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 2+ years implementing complex healthcare software with provider practices
  • 2+ years implementing integration technology (e.g. Smart-on-FHIR apps, HL7/FHIR services)
  • Clear understanding of provider workflows, risk adjustment, and quality of care
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional coordination skills
  • Excellent communication and expectation-setting skills with internal and external stakeholders, including technical and non-technical topics
  • Proficient with technical integration products and concepts (APIs, data feeds, EMR config)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with project stakeholders and leadership, including a variety of EMR integration and interoperability related topics and technologies
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent implementations
  • High ownership mindset and bias toward hands-on execution

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience with specific EMR integration implementation and technical configuration options (e.g. Epic, athena, Medent, eClinicalWorks)
  • Degree in health informatics, computer science or engineering, information technology, etc.
