  • Spring 2027 Program Dates: Approximately January 2027 – April 2027

The UP&E Engineering Intern – Product Safety will support the Product Integrity team responsible for ensuring the safety, regulatory compliance, and quality of consumer products sold across Universal theme park retail locations. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to real‑world product safety work within a global entertainment company, spanning multiple product categories and partner teams.

Working under close supervision and guidance from experienced Product Integrity Engineers, the intern will assist with product compliance reviews, documentation validation, regulatory research, and process improvement initiatives. This role is designed to introduce students to how product safety, compliance, and risk mitigation are embedded into fast‑paced retail product development and licensing environments. All work will be conducted with appropriate oversight and approval.

Learning Goals:

  • Practical experience with real consumer products, not simulated case studies.
  • Exposure to multiple product categories (toys, apparel, accessories, home goods, souvenirs, etc.).
  • Understanding of how compliance decisions are made in a commercially driven retail environment.
  • A foundation in engineering‑based risk thinking applied to consumer products.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Protocol and Attestation Document Assembly: Assist with assembling and reviewing compliance test protocols & attestations. Check references, formatting, completeness, and internal consistency across documents.
  • Product Compliance Documentation Review: Review test reports, Children’s Product Certificates (CPCs), and attestations for alignment with approved test plans; correct product identification; expiration dates, retest triggers, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Regulatory & Market Research: Research upcoming regulations, standards updates, and compliance trends. Support benchmarking of similar products available in the market.
  • Process & Documentation Support: Draft or update SOPs, work instructions, and internal guidance documents. Assist with improving document organization, clarity, and usability.
  • Issue Management Exposure: Log and track testing or compliance concerns. Assist with corrective action (CAPA) reviews and issue management recommendations.
  • Cross‑Functional Exposure: Observe/assist in product compliance reviews. Participate in Product Integrity Office Hours with Product Development teams. Observe how Product Integrity partners with Sourcing, PD, Legal, and external vendors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite required.
  • Strong attention to detail and interest in product safety, quality, or regulatory compliance required.
  • Comfortable working with technical documents and data.
  • Curious, organized, and eager to learn in a structured, supervised environment.
  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Junior or above.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required.
  • A transcript is required upon application.

PREFERRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Preferred majors include: Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.

Please note the following:

  • This internship will be an in-person experience, based in our Orlando offices.
  • Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university, and must have a graduation date later than April 2027.
  • Universal Orlando does not provide housing. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
  • All of our internships are paid, and you may also qualify for housing financial assistance if applicable. The Recruiter will provide specific eligibility details.
