Job Description
BCT Technology AG is a recognized and successful provider of software, systems and services within Siemens' digitization strategy. As a long-standing development and sales partner of Siemens PLM Software, BCT is dedicated to topics such as industry 4.0 and Internet of Things.
Approximately 15 developers are currently working on the development of BCT software daily, contributing to the success of our company. The department is composed of an international team from all over the world. Developers all have laptop workstations equipped with modern and powerful hardware. The teams develop according to the agile development method "Scrum" and rely on modern application lifecycle management systems, continuous integration, automatic verification and rapid deployment.
Internship Software Development
What you will be working on
- Research industry standards and best practices for building large C++ applications
- Select major tools and trends
- Analyse strengths and weaknesses of each
- Include a strategy view (market share, trends)
- Summarize findings in a decision document
- Investigate functional and technical requirements of BCT Inspector build system
- Make2 features
- Upcoming requirements for Inspector 2 / Wasm platform
- Dependency management
- Build a proof of concept port of BCT Inspector to the selected build system
- Create a working build for inspector neutral
- Create a working build for inspector NX / SE
- Create a working build for inspector tests
Duration minimum 3 months, maximum 6 months.
For longer internship investigate best practices for splitting Inspector into separate modules, with proper dependency management (internal and external)
Duties and responsibilities
- As part of one of our developer teams, you will join our Agile workflow, actively participating to morning dailies, retrospectives and refinement.
- You will gain experience with large software projects standing the test of time and delivering customer value over the years.
- You will have the opportunity to contribute to their modernization at a key point of their evolution.
Qualifications and skills
- You are a student in Computer Science or a closely related field
- You have at least a basic knowledge of modern C++, and have built programs for at least 2 different platforms (eg: Linux, Windows, Arduino, …)
- Any experience with C++ build systems is a plus. Make, CMake, Ninja…
- Past contributions to Open Source software, especially ones written in C++ is not required, but would be a major plus
- The ideal candidate is apt at both listening to others and voicing their opinion.
- They love clean, modular design, backed by standards and best practices.
- They have an "enabler" mindset, taking pride in improving others' work.
