Job Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Prescient Design is part of Genentech’s Research and Early Development organization (gRED), where we develop and apply cutting-edge machine learning methods to challenges across drug discovery.

Our Frontier Research team focuses on advancing fundamental machine learning and translating new methodological ideas into problems where they can have meaningful scientific impact. We work at the intersection of machine learning, biology, and experimental science, developing methods that can enable new ways of understanding and designing biological systems.

A major area of interest for the team is the development of foundation models for biological systems and understanding how learned representations can be optimized for scientific discovery and downstream prediction tasks.

This internship provides an opportunity to contribute to this work while gaining hands-on research experience at the interface of machine learning and biology.

This internship position is located in Basel.

The Opportunity

  • You will contribute to the development and training of foundation models for cell receptors and related biological systems.
  • You will investigate how learned representations can be adapted and optimized for scientific discovery and downstream prediction tasks.
  • You will work with biological datasets and support data processing, model training, evaluation, and analysis.
  • You will implement and compare machine learning approaches and explore strategies for improving model performance and generalization.
  • You will contribute to research code, experimental pipelines, and visualization of results.
  • You will collaborate with machine learning researchers and scientists across Frontier Research and the broader AI for Drug Discovery organization.

Who You Are

  • You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Biology, or a related technical field.
  • You have a good understanding of machine learning fundamentals and an interest in modern deep learning methods.
  • You have experience with programming and data analysis, preferably in Python.
  • You have experience implementing, training, or evaluating machine learning models.
  • You are comfortable working with datasets, running computational experiments, and analyzing model performance.
  • You are curious, motivated to learn, and interested in applying machine learning to scientific problems.

Application Process

  • Please upload your CV with your application, and a certificate of enrolment (if you are currently studying) or your degree certificate (if you have already completed your studies).
