Job Description

Who you are

We are looking for a curious and hands-on intern to join the Insights & Analytics team at IKEA Belgium. Please note that this is a non-paid academic internship for students looking to complete their programme requirements. The internship will commence in January or February, with a minimum duration of 12 weeks.

Are you triggered by consumer insights and strategy? Do you like following trends, discovering what different brands and competitors are doing, and understanding what it could mean for the business? Are you curious about the fast-changing consumer and the dynamics shaping retail? And are you not afraid of abbreviations such as STEEP, PEST or SWOT?

Then you might be the person we are looking for.

Join the Insights & Analytics team at IKEA Belgium and help us understand the macro and micro dynamics impacting our business. You will get an inside view of a dynamic retail market, explore changing consumer expectations and help translate what is happening outside IKEA into insights that can support our strategy. At the same time, we want to rethink how we gather those insights. We are looking for smarter and more efficient ways to monitor competitors, services, propositions and market developments. You will help us explore how AI and agents can support competitive intelligence, from gathering and structuring information to identifying relevant changes and translating them into actionable insights.

We are looking for someone who:

-Is currently studying at Master’s level.

-Is curious about consumers, competitors, retail and services.

-Enjoys working with numbers and facts, but is even more interested in interpreting what they mean.

-Is interested in AI, agents and new ways of making insight gathering smarter and more efficient.

-Enjoys turning information into clear, visual and inspirational PowerPoint presentations.

-Has basic Excel skills and is comfortable working with data.

-Has a positive and open mindset and is eager to learn and experiment.

-Is fluent in English and has Dutch or French as a mother tongue.

  • Can handle a bad joke from time to time. We consider this an important survival skill.

A day in your life with us

During your internship, you will help us bring the outside world into IKEA. You will work with stakeholders across IKEA, giving you the opportunity to understand how different teams use consumer, competitor and market insights to shape their strategies and decisions. Where possible, we work with project-based assignments where you can take ownership of a topic from the initial business question through to the final insights and recommendations. Depending on your academic requirements, there may also be opportunities to connect a project to your thesis.

Your internship could include:

Helping develop smarter and more structured ways to gather insights, through AI.

Monitoring competitors, new propositions, services and developments in the wider retail landscape.

Creating insight decks for internal stakeholders, translating information into clear stories, implications and opportunities.

Supporting teams such as Marketing, Sales, Services and Strategy with relevant market and consumer insights.

Helping the Insights & Analytics team with STEEP analysis, trend monitoring and consumer insights.

Exploring how consumer needs and expectations are changing and what this could mean for the future shopping experience.

Supporting ad hoc research and business questions.

Getting hands-on experience with both quantitative and qualitative research.

What you will get from us

During your internship, you will have the opportunity to:

Build hands-on experience in consumer and competitive intelligence.

Experiment with AI and agent-based ways of working in a real business environment.

Learn how to turn large amounts of information into relevant and actionable insights.

Understand how consumer and market insights influence business and strategic decisions.

Work with a broad range of stakeholders across IKEA Belgium.

Get exposure to both quantitative and qualitative research.

Experience working in a warm, international and value-driven company where sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion are high on the agenda.

And who knows, you might even find your future employer along the way.
