Would you like to help develop solutions for tomorrow’s healthcare? At Roche in Penzberg—Europe’s largest biotechnology center near Munich—you’ll work at the intersection of research, development, and production for Diagnostics and Pharma. During your internship, we offer you the opportunity to actively contribute to innovative projects in research and development, get to know different business areas, and gain valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of a global healthcare company.
The Team
You’ll be joining the CoreLab Development research and development network within Roche Diagnostics. Our small, independent, and diverse team currently consists of 10 members. We focus on molecular diagnostics, biopharma analytics, and biopharma reagents. We accompany new product developments from the initial concept through to market launch and beyond. Additionally, we contribute to technology evaluations, troubleshooting, and support marketing by creating promotional materials.
Your Challenges
You will play an active role in various work packages, sub-projects, and projects aimed at developing and optimizing bioreagents such as enzymes, nucleotides, and enzyme kits. As part of this, you’ll also be introduced to method and assay development as well as statistical experimental design (DoE) in an industrial setting
You’ll research, plan, implement, and conduct analyses and experiments in close collaboration with your team and supervisor
Furthermore, you will help prepare reports and present your findings within the team, as well as to colleagues in related departments and interface partners
Your Profile
You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, (Molecular) Biology, Biotechnology or a comparable university program, or you are in a gap year
You enjoy lab work and experimental tasks, including evaluating complex series of experiments
You are enthusiastic about engaging with people and working together in a team to develop concepts and discuss our work scientifically
You have an open-minded, inclusive, and authentic nature.
Curiosity, enthusiasm, and joy are essential companions on your journey
Your Skills
Your studies have equipped you with a solid theoretical foundation in disciplines such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related areas
You have practical experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, cloning, working with nucleic acids), biochemistry (enzyme activity, proteins), or analytical chemistry (homogeneous assays, HPLC, photometry, fluorometry, electrophoresis). Ideally, you have gained lab experience through internships, student assistant jobs, or during thesis projects
You are able to organize and structure your work independently
You approach challenges and ideas enthusiastically, working systematically and solution-oriented, while remaining open to creative and flexible approaches
You communicate confidently with your team and our partners in English, both spoken and written. German is helpful but not required
