The intern will join the Global Process & Technology Development Bakery team and will be based at the Rubbiano Bakery Plant. The team is responsible for the development, validation, and implementation of innovative technologies aimed at monitoring, controlling, and optimizing bakery manufacturing processes on a global scale.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an industrial production environment, working directly on the plant’s three rusk production lines while collaborating with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, Maintenance, R&D, and Supply Chain/Operations.
The main project will focus on supporting the installation, commissioning, calibration, and validation of advanced inline measurement systems based on sensor technologies designed to monitor key process and product parameters across bakery manufacturing lines.
Working closely with plant teams, the intern will actively interact with both line operators and functional managers, while also collaborating with colleagues from the Global Process Development Bakery team and other R&D, RD&Q, and Supply Chain/Operations functions.
The role will involve collecting, organizing, and processing both digital and manually generated data. With the guidance of the project team, the intern will develop foundational skills in data management and statistical analysis, contributing to the assessment of the reliability and effectiveness of new process-monitoring technologies.
In parallel, the intern will support a project focused on testing and validating alternative coating materials for baking trays used in bakery production. This activity will include preparing trials, collecting experimental data, and evaluating the performance of different solutions.

We are an Italian family-owned food company. And like all Italian families, we take food very seriously. We have been doing this for 149 years. Today we are committed to bringing people closer to the joy of good food and making quality the choice for a better life, from each individual to the planet.
Our origins date back to 1877, when Pietro Barilla senior opened a small bread and pasta shop in Parma: it’s the first chapter of a story of passion for quality, continuous pursuit of excellent recipes and ability to combine tradition and innovation.
Today we are an international Group present in more than 100 countries through our brands: world leader for pasta, leader for ready-made sauces in Europe, for bakery products in Italy and for crispbreads in Scandinavia. We employ almost 9,000 people and own 30 production sites in 10 countries which every year contribute to the production of more than 2,000,000 tons of products.
We work every day to be the most reputable Italian food company worldwide, bringing to the world tasty, joyful and wholesome products - made with selected raw materials from responsible supply chains - reducing our impact on the planet and fostering open and caring dialogue in the communities in which we operate. In 2025, the RepTrak® Company Ranking recognized this commitment by naming us the most reputable food company in the world, confirming the strength of the philosophy behind our purpose: “The joy of food for a better life.”
At Barilla we empower people to live and work responsibly, embracing our value system of integrity, trust, intellectual curiosity and passion. Moreover, we recognize diversity and inclusion as key drivers of our future: that is why we encourage everyone to bring their authentic self to work, in a culture of acceptance and understanding.
