What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:  

This position is expected to start around January 2027 and continue through the entire Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, Full - Time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team

Come join a small team of experts building the systems that connect Tesla and our customers to their cars, robotaxis, robots, and energy products.

At Tesla, we’re at the forefront of connected innovation providing a suite of rich backend services to our growing fleets. The team operates the UI and services behind developer.tesla.com. We own the platform that enables owners to interact with their cars and developers to build device-connected applications. The platform includes Authentication systems and other back-end services powering vehicles and mobile apps. You will evolve across the tech stack to deliver features to millions of customers and improve our products.

We are looking for a highly motivated software engineer students specialized in web services and distributed systems. The platform you build will scale novel functionality to millions of users and devices.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build scalable, high-availability mission-critical systems and APIs
  • Migrate systems to designs with improved maintainability and performance
  • Build device-side software to manage security, connectivity, commands and telemetry
  • Solve problems using distributed, asynchronous messaging
  • Work closely with product, SRE and infrastructure teams

What You’ll Bring

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field with a gradation date between 2027 - 2028
  • Experience in web development building highly reliable, mission-critical software
  • Proficiency in frontend and backend development, with frequent production releases
  • Experience with Rails, React, Ruby or Webpack
  • Nice to have: Experience with Go and Kubernetes, Knowledge of best practices, information security, and API design principles, Experience with gathering and building requirements from multiple stakeholders

Expected Compensation

$40.00 - $56.00 + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
