Job Description

The intern will support the Automation and Advanced Process Control (APC) team in improving process control performance, monitoring APC applications, developing data analytics solutions, and enhancing automation system reliability. The internship provides practical exposure to Distributed Control Systems (DCS), APC technologies, process data analytics, alarm management, and Predictive Emissions Monitoring Systems (PEMS).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Base Layer Control Performance Analysis
  • Collect and analyze historical process data from DCS and process historians.
  • Assess the performance of regulatory control loops and identify performance gaps.
  • Monitor controller operating modes, variability, and response characteristics.
  • Recommend potential improvements for loop tuning and control optimization.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards on control loop performance.
  1. Advanced Process Control (APC) Support
  • Support APC performance monitoring activities and review APC operating statistics.
  • Analyze plant constraints, process bottlenecks, and APC effectiveness.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for throughput, energy, and operational optimization.
  • Develop APC performance KPIs and reporting tools.
  • Participate in APC performance reviews and improvement initiatives.
  1. Process Data Analytics and Digitalization
  • Extract, clean, and validate operational data from process historians and plant databases.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Excel, PI Vision, or Python.
  • Perform data analysis to identify process trends, equipment performance issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support digitalization initiatives related to process monitoring and decision support.
  1. Predictive Emissions Monitoring System (PEMS) Analysis
  • Support monitoring and analysis of PEMS performance and prediction accuracy.
  • Compare predicted emissions data against measured values and evaluate model performance.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for model improvement.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports related to emissions monitoring and regulatory compliance requirements.

This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to Base Layer Control, Advanced Process Control (APC), Industrial Automation, Process Analytics, and Emissions Monitoring, enabling students to apply engineering knowledge in a real operational environment.
