Job Description

The Baltimore Committee of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) seeks a part-time intern to support its mission of addressing the root causes of poverty and promoting the principles of Catholic Social Teaching.

CCHD is the anti-poverty program of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Baltimore Committee works in collaboration with the national office of CCHD to advance this mission throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The CCHD Intern is employed by St. Bernardine Catholic Church with Historic St. Peter Claver. The weekly hours are 12. Daily hours may vary. This is a 24-week position expected to start September 1.

The CCHD Intern is ultimately accountable to the Baltimore Diocesan Director of CCHD, Rev. Msgr. Richard J. Bozzelli, and reports directly to those responsible for the Intern’s supervision, including:

  • Ms. Allison Stone, Catholic Charities of Baltimore – provides daily guidance and supervision.
  • Ms. Gisele Ferretto, Baltimore CCHD Committee – meets weekly with the Intern throughout the internship.
  • Ms. Marge Trenkle, Chair of the Baltimore CCHD Committee – meets with the Intern as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in planning educational and outreach events for parishes, with the goal of increasing awareness of CCHD and Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Support efforts to strengthen connections between previously-funded organizations and local parishes, with an emphasis on Western Maryland parishes, youth engagement, and Latino communities.
  • Assist with the annual CCHD collection by interviewing representatives of CCHD-funded organizations and writing articles highlighting their work and impact.
  • Participate in presentations and events alongside Baltimore CCHD Committee members to promote the mission and work of CCHD.
  • Develop and implement a project or initiative of personal interest that advances the mission of CCHD and the work of justice.

Position Qualifications

  • The Intern will be provided office space at Catholic Charities of Baltimore.
  • The position involves regular interaction with the staff of Catholic Charities of Baltimore, members of the Baltimore CCHD Committee, representatives of CCHD-funded organizations, and the general public.
  • Occasional evening hours may be required for meetings and special events.
  • Must be in the process of obtaining a 4-year college degree.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
  • Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to stay on task and be highly dependable.

Pay Range: $15.00 – 20.00, Hourly
