About the role

We are seeking a motivated, curious and tech-savvy CTRM Intern to support Ampol’s Commodity Trading & Risk Management (CTRM) transformation program. This internship is ideal for someone who is switched on, enjoys problem-solving, and has a genuine interest in technology, data, AI and system-enabled change.

Working closely with the CTRM Project Management Office (PMO) and project delivery teams, the intern will gain hands-on exposure to a large-scale technology transformation within a fast-paced trading and shipping environment. The role offers valuable experience across project coordination, process improvement and technology enablement, while building an understanding of how trading, risk and finance systems work together.

Key Responsibilities

Rotation Across CTRM Project Workstreams

  • Support the CTRM PMO and project team across multiple workstreams including Technology Delivery, Business Process, Change & Training, and Governance.
  • Gain exposure to how trading, risk and finance systems interact across the trade lifecycle.
  • Participate in targeted learning sessions to build understanding of CTRM concepts, systems and project delivery practices.

Project Coordination & Delivery Support

  • Assist with tracking project activities, milestones and deliverables.
  • Maintain project documentation, action registers and trackers.
  • Support meeting coordination, including agenda preparation, note-taking and action follow-up.
  • Help prepare simple project status updates and reports.

Process Improvement & Technology Enablement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline project workflows, documentation or reporting through better use of technology or automation.
  • Support documentation of bCurrently pursuing a degree in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, Data, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Strong interest in technology, systems, digital transformation and AI.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn in complex environments.
  • Experience working on group projects, internships or university initiatives involving technology, data or process improvement is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Comfortable working with data and tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Exposure to or interest in tools such as Jira, Smartsheet, Power BI, SQL, Python or automation tools is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative team player who is motivated, organised and adaptable.

Data, Reporting & Automation

  • Assist with maintaining and improving project dashboards and trackers (e.g. Excel, SharePoint, Jira).
  • Support data analysis to track progress, risks, issues or dependencies.
  • Leverage interest in AI, data or automation to help reduce manual effort in project administration or reporting where possible.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communications

  • Support communication between the CTRM project team and business stakeholders.
  • Assist with drafting internal communications, updates or training materials.
  • Help gather feedback from users and consolidate inputs for the project team.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, Data, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Strong interest in technology, systems, digital transformation and AI.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn in complex environments.

We supply Australia's largest branded petrol and convenience network as well as refining, importing and marketing fuels and lubricants. This network is supported by over 9,100 people across Australia, NZ , Singapore and the United States of America (USA).

In recent years, we have leveraged our Australian business to extend our supply chain and operations into international markets. This includes our Trading and Shipping business that operates out of Singapore and Houston in the USA, and our international storage positions across the Asia Pacific region and North America. Ampol also owns a 20% equity interest in Seaoil, a leading independent fuel company in the Philippines.
