At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
Within our cross-functional Connected Health and Digital Diagnostics ecosystem, the Computer Science Center of Excellence (CS CoE) is responsible for pushing the boundaries of remote patient monitoring. By integrating advanced computer vision, anthropometric modeling, and machine learning, our team builds the foundational pipeline for the Kinetic Twin API —a medical-grade digital health solution that democratizes 3D body composition analysis and passive data monitoring using standard smartphone technology.
As our Intern, you will work at the cutting edge of AI/ML and digital twin technology. Building upon successful validation pipelines completed in 2025, your core focus will be bridging the gap between static 3D anatomical models and dynamic passive health monitoring. This project is directly aligned with our strategic focus on passive monitoring (such as actigraphy) in longitudinal obesity studies, where you will help transform unlabelled data streams into highly actionable clinical insights.
In this position, you will be responsible for the following areas:
Digital Twin Synthesis: Assist in developing and optimizing cutting-edge AI/ML models to synthesise high-fidelity sensor and motion data from anthropometric, parametrisable digital twins.
Pipeline Engineering: Maintain, test, and expand our end-to-end data pipelines, identifying optimization opportunities to generate highly accurate, labeled motion datasets.
Algorithm Testing: Deploy unsupervised machine learning methods (including longitudinal clustering) to infer daily activities and trends within large, unlabeled real-world patient datasets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Support the Integration and Connected Health teams by verifying how synthetic data scales when mapping body dimensions to clinical actigraphy profiles.
Project Management: Plan, coordinate, and execute independent, small-scale technical work packages, reporting data findings and pipeline bottlenecks clearly to senior management.
You are excited to start your professional career at the intersection of medical software, computer vision, and data science, bringing the following qualifications:
Education: You are currently enrolled as a Bachelor’s / Master’s student or have recently graduated (within the last 12 months), preferably in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent, with specific coursework or project experience in AI/ML.
Technical Toolkit: Strong programming proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn). Knowledge of 3D data handling or computer vision is a distinct advantage.
Analytical Mindset: Excellent grasp of complex algorithmic challenges, with an ability to apply creative, conceptual thinking to unsupervised data problems.
Communication: Excellent spoken and written command of English (German is an asset). Competent in translating complex technical data into clear updates for cross-functional peers.
Swiss/EU Regulatory Requirement: Due to local regulations, non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a valid certificate from their university stating that this internship is a mandatory component of their degree program.
