Job Description

Sheladia Associates, Inc. is seeking experienced International Senior Geotechnical Engineers for an EIB-funded highway construction supervision assignment in Georgia.

The assignment requires separate Senior Geotechnical Engineers for Lots I and II, with indicative inputs of 15 person-months for Lot I and 12 person-months for Lot II.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect cut slopes and recommend measures necessary to ensure slope stability.
  • Design any supplementary drainage, slope protection and retaining structures.
  • Inspect foundation excavations for embankments, undertake supplementary analysis of stability where required, confirm founding depth for embankments.
  • Confirm appropriate founding depths and conditions for embankments and other structures.
  • Assist the Materials Engineer in identifying suitable materials for embankment construction.
  • Inspect shallow footing foundations and confirm appropriate bearing pressures.
  • Inspect rock-socketed bored piles and confirm required penetration depths.
  • Review revisions to foundation designs proposed by the contractor.
  • Attend and supervise pile testing, interpret results, and provide recommendations regarding acceptance.
  • Review rock-condition parameters and temporary support requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage geologists and other geotechnical support personnel as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Must hold PE, Chartered Engineer (CEng), EUR ING, or an equivalent professional engineering license/certification issued by an appropriate professional authority.
  • Preferably at least 15 years of experience in similar construction and/or construction supervision assignments.
  • Preferably at least 10 years of international experience as a Geotechnical Engineer on large-scale and complex road or railway projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience under FIDIC Red Book or FIDIC MDB Harmonized Conditions of Contract.
  • Strong experience in foundations, slope stability, embankments, soil and rock engineering, piling, retaining structures, and major transportation infrastructure is desirable.
  • Prior regional experience is highly desired.

Candidates should clearly identify relevant international highway/railway geotechnical assignments, FIDIC experience, and professional engineering registrations in their CVs.

This position is being recruited for proposal purposes and engagement will be contingent upon contract award and Client approval.
