Job Description

This role will provide legal counsel on trade compliance matters including valuation, classification, and supporting complex global supply chain and manufacturing operations.

Locations: Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the General Counsel, this is a highly visible role at the intersection of Legal, Finance, and Supply Chain—responsible the legal framework around trade compliance, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring full adherence to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor on U.S. import laws, including customs valuation, HTS classification, country of origin, tariff applicability
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Operations to provide legal advice on the design and implementation of compliant, auditable processes that support global trade activities
  • Advise on customs valuation methodologies (transaction value, first sale, computed and fallback methods) and related-party considerations
  • Oversee legal aspects of broker management, import documentation standards, bonded warehouse operations, and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) compliance
  • Represent and advise the company in interactions with CBP and other regulatory authorities, including audits, inquiries, prior disclosures, and compliance reviews
  • Lead legal guidance on compliance investigations and remediation efforts, ensuring sustainable corrective actions and strong internal controls
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements impacting import activities, including supplier certifications, origin documentation, and trade-related contractual provisions
  • Monitor and interpret changes in trade laws, CBP rulings, and enforcement trends; translate regulatory developments into clear, actionable business guidance
  • Develop and deliver training to internal stakeholders on trade compliance
  • Mentor and provide leadership to internal legal and compliance resources supporting trade-related activities
  • Possess necessary leadership traits to potentially lead a team of trade compliance specialists.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
  • 7+ years of experience advising on U.S. import laws and trade compliance
  • Deep expertise in customs regulations, including HTS classification, valuation methodologies, country of origin, and CBP compliance frameworks
  • Proven experience advising on or overseeing trade compliance programs
  • Experience supporting audits, prior disclosures, and compliance remediation efforts under regulatory scrutiny
  • Strong ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical, business-aligned solutions
  • Demonstrated success partnering cross-functionally with Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and Executive leadership
