Job Description

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program to join our Graduate Medical Education department. This position is a full-time opportunity primarily based out of our Gaithersburg Medical Center.

Reporting to the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), the Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Internal Medicine Residency Program while maintaining a 0.3 clinical FTE in Internal Medicine or an ABIM medical subspecialty. You will oversee accreditation, curriculum development, faculty and resident supervision, recruitment, and program evaluation to ensure the residency program maintains excellence in graduate medical education and compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards.

You can expect to:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Internal Medicine residency curriculum that supports resident education, competency development, and independent practice readiness.
  • Lead efforts to maintain ACGME accreditation and ensure compliance with all institutional and residency program requirements.
  • Partner with the DIO, Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), participating sites, and faculty leadership to enhance the residency program and educational experience.
  • Oversee resident recruitment, selection, evaluation, promotion, supervision, and program completion processes in alignment with organizational and institutional goals.
  • Administer residency program operations, including faculty supervision, educational programming, accreditation reporting, and policy implementation.
  • Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to residents and faculty while maintaining high standards of patient care and teaching excellence.
  • Coordinate participation in residency recruitment initiatives, including the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through curriculum reviews, resident milestone assessments, faculty evaluations, board examination outcomes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

What is required:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification and active medical licensure eligible for practice in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, including CDS and DEA certifications.
  • Minimum of five (5) years as an active faculty member in an Internal Medicine Residency Program and at least three (3) years of graduate medical education administrative experience within the last 10 years.
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum development, resident evaluation methodologies, faculty mentorship, clinical teaching, and graduate medical education program administration. Experience with electronic medical record systems such as EPIC preferred.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills; excellent communication and collaboration abilities; demonstrated commitment to academic medicine and resident development.
  • Must be able to commute to Washington D.C., on as-needed basis.
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $325,000 to $375,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. In addition to the salary range above, MAPMG offers rich benefits that add substantial value to the total compensation package.
