Position Summary:

The Internal Bank Appraiser is responsible for evaluating the value of real estate to support lending decisions. This role conducts property inspections, analyzes market data and trends, and prepares comprehensive appraisal reports for management review. The position works closely with loan management, support staff, and underwriters to facilitate sound credit decisions, while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and thorough documentation. The Internal Bank Appraiser also communicates findings and recommendations effectively to stakeholders and remains current on industry standards and appraisal methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct property inspections to appraise the value of real estate for bank loans
  • Analyze data and market trends to determine property values
  • Prepare and submit appraisal reports to bank management for review
  • Communicate appraisal findings to clients and provide recommendations
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and changes in appraisal methods
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all appraisals conducted
  • All other job duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in appraisals or a comparable banking role
  • Working knowledge of appraisal methods, principles, and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Preferred Qualification

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a bank appraiser or in a comparable banking role
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field
  • Experience utilizing appraisal software and related tools
  • Certified General Appraiser license

Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, draw sound conclusions, and produce accurate reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills

Work Environment

  • Primarily office or branch-based environment with standard business hours. Regular travel to site inspections, other branch locations or community events may be required
  • Daily extended use of banking software, secure digital platforms, and standard office equipment
  • Repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed
