CharteredPartners is seeking an experienced internal audit professional to join our client in Sydney at Senior Manager level. The successful candidate will manage internal audit and controls advisory engagements end to end, supervise teams, and support the directors and partners on quality, client relationships and proposals. Specific qualifications, regulatory fluency and technical breadth are detailed in the sections that follow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage co-sourced and outsourced internal audit engagements from planning and risk assessment through to fieldwork, reporting and close-out.
  • Supervise and coach audit teams, reviewing working papers and ensuring alignment to the Global Internal Audit Standards 2024.
  • Deliver controls reviews and risk assessments across financial services, public sector and corporate clients.
  • Support APRA-regulated clients on CPS 230 operational risk management and CPS 234 information security expectations.
  • Prepare audit committee papers and present findings to management and boards in clear, evidence-based terms.
  • Assist directors and partners with proposals, scoping and client relationship management.
  • Contribute to methodology, data analytics adoption and the development of junior staff.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A recognised credential such as CA ANZ, CPA Australia, CIA or equivalent, supported by a strong academic record.
  • At least seven to nine years of internal audit or controls experience, including team supervision.
  • Sound command of the Global Internal Audit Standards 2024, the COSO framework and the three lines model.
  • Practical knowledge of APRA prudential standards, including CPS 230 and CPS 234.
  • Familiarity with ASIC expectations and the governance requirements of the Corporations Act.
  • Understanding of Privacy Act obligations as they intersect with controls and data governance.
  • Experience preparing audit committee reporting and managing engagements to budget.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the use of data analytics in audit delivery.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and confident stakeholder management.

Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure to financial services, superannuation or insurance clients.
  • Familiarity with SOX 404 and ICFR delivery for US-listed groups operating in Australia.
  • A secondary specialism in technology risk, cyber or ESG assurance.
  • Active membership of IIA Australia, CA ANZ or a comparable body.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and contributing to recruitment.
  • Exposure to continuous auditing or analytics-led monitoring tools.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.
